Title: Office break room microwave etiquette question
Post by: spacey on May 13, 2008, 11:18:42 AM
Based on other topics of a similar nature, I am obviously not privy to all the subtle nuances of office break room microwave politics. I need help digesting the following scenario:

It's not quite time for the typical lunchtime rush in the break room, but it is only moments away. I have two containers that require microwaving and there are two open microwaves at my disposal. It is possible, if not likely, that the heating time will overlap slightly the start of the lunchtime rush, meaning I'll be occupying both microwaves while someone is likely waiting to use one of them, if only for a minute or two. If I reheat both containers in the same microwave it will assuredly tie up the one microwave longer but leave the other free. I have no plans to leave the break room or leave the microwave/s unattended until my food is done heating.

What is the ruling?

Are you one of those foods must not touch weirdos?

Get a plate.

I find it much easier to keep things from exploding all over the microwave if I keep them in the containers in which they were transported.  ;)

Use 'em both.  If someone comes in and needs one, smile and apologetically explain you were trying to get done fast before the rush and have BOTH ovens available.

Then throat-punch him.

Ditto. Except if he's really pissy, cock-punch him.

"Lunchroom Microwave Etiquette":

1 If you're heating food in the microwave, you wait till it's done.

2 Apply rule 1 unless you need to heat anything longer than 5 minutes, in which case you should go buy a sandwich you cheap *feces*.

3 Frozen meals and dinners for one, have no place in a lunchroom. This isn't your own personal kitchen, nor is it some kind of soup kitchen.

4 If you put something in the microwave and you walk away, don't expect it to still be in there if it's done before you get back, and don't give me any grief about it either you selfish prick, next time I might just spit in it.

5 Under no circumstances are the following foods to be re-heated in the microwave:

   * Indian food
   * Asian food
   * Mexican food
   * or any other food that is likely to cause an evacuation of the immediate area due to it's smell, that's why we have things called restaurants.

Thank you have a nice day.

I'm going to go with my standard reply:  Sounds like "impatient microwave" guy needs a *fudge*in' beat down.

Hmm, tough call.  What kind of food are we talking about that needs simultaneous microwaving?

Geez, that looks like it belongs in hobbit's recent thread.
