Title: ummm, say what? [Politics/Religion]
Post by: Aske on April 09, 2008, 07:21:03 AM
Quote
The Bush administration so far has adamantly refused to commit public money to help settle a housing crisis in which millions of Americans are expected to lose their homes through foreclosure.

We do have common ground on this economic point good Doctor.

If we're going to bail out financial institutions for greed and stupidity (or "risk taking"), we should do something for greedy and stupid homeowners*.

My vote would be for letting everyone take their medicine but...................

*as stated before my belief is that both sides are to blame. When you pick up the pen to sign your name to a document and don't understand the implications you probably should drop the pen.

I have research scientists and executives sign documents nearly every day.  The documents bind the company, allege or flat-out certify some fact, and/or affect rights of the company and/or its relationship with a commercial partner.  In the great majority of instances, the signatories do not understand what they're signing, absent my explanation.  I'm just sayin'.

When the ream of paper was placed before my wife and me at closing, we relied heavily on the realtor and the closing attorney to guide us through them.  If they misrepresent, we get hosed.

(The above should not be taken to mean I absolve the folks who took ARMs with no reasonable expectation that their financial situation would jump in five years the way their rate would.)

This was my point in my post. I probably should have been more clear that I was referring to the home mortgage "crisis". Understanding loans and your financial situation should be your responsibility and quite frankly, not that difficult. IMO.

No problem.  My point was that my people DOunderstand the documents, but only because they were educated by the guy presenting them.  I suspect most home-buyers can be similarly characterized.
