Title: what age?
Post by: Spanky on July 24, 2008, 06:50:54 PM
We have a 10 year old son and he is moving to middle school this year.

What age is right for the "birds and the bees" talk?

I will be having it with him before school starts.

I believe several pamphlets and short videos are available from the fine folks at One Blader Plaza.

But if you're more a DIY type (and they have pamphlets and videos for that, BTW), you might run your spiel by us to make sure you know what you're talking about.

I have 3 boys that I think are mine so I'm slightly sure I know what I'm about to talk about.

You know, I'm failing in my effort to convey my point without insulting your no doubt formidable

Perhaps the better way to put it is that even an experienced fly fisherman can learn something from watching another fly fisherman working a stretch of river.  Of course, the voyeuristic implications highlight the shortcomings in my analogy, perhaps distracting from my main point.  As if I had one.

I was given  :airquotes: the talk  :airquotes: at 6 or 7. But it was my fault- I asked, (Or  :airquotes: aske :airquotes: d), and mom's a nurse, WTF did I expect?

I never got the talk, I just read Cleo (your cosmo magazine) magazine, at school with all the other girls, and Oh, I forgot, page (I think it was 28) of The Godfather in the school library. ;D

Have the talk before school starts.  If middle school is 6th - 8th like it is here, he'll hear more than his share of **** talk in the hallways and on the bus.  This past school year was my son's 1st year at middle school, trust me he will be enlightened.

You'd be surprised what they learn in health now-a-days. I talked to both my boys at 12 and I was a bit shocked at what they had covered in school.
