Seriously considering buying a 2000 BMW FS650 for to and from work. 25000 miles, great shape all documents in order. Under $4k Thoughts?

Great bikes and pretty much bullet proof.  Plenty of after-market support.  Fuel Injection nets 50+ MPG, and it's not unrealistic to expect 70-80K miles out of the motor. In my opinion, it's the perfect commuter, it sits high so visibility is not an issue, and it handles well enough at freeway speeds without being a pig. I had a Dakar for 2 years and loved the bike, I just do more off-road stuff, so I went to a more dirt oriented ride.  I say go for it.

Thanks campy. That's what I thought and have read about it. Here is a pic. It has side hard bags as well. Fully serviced every 6k. Custom seat. It doesn't have a fuel indicator which I thought was weird, but I imagine it can be installed after market.

From the picture, it looks in good shape, and with added luggage makes it a good buy. If I'm not mistaken, there is a really good BMW dealership in Boise, so service shouldn't be a problem.

Kelley Blue Book for Boise ID (83705, picked at random) is $3905.  If the bags came extra (and I believe they were not standard on that model), then $4000 would be a bit high but tolerable, considering the aftermarket seat (Corbin?  Sargent?).  The maintenance records are nice for peace of mind.

The F650 is a solid bike, good handling, light weight, and not so powerful that you're really going to get yourself in trouble.  Great ergonomics, too, IMO.

Motorcycle fuel indicators are notoriously inaccurate.  Usually, there's an idiot light that warns you when you're down to, say, 1 gallon.  Just note your trip odometer reading when you fill up, reset it, and you'll quickly learn how many miles you can ride before you should start thinking about gassing up.

I'm only paying $3600. All the cases are extra. It has a trip odometer and the guy who owns it now says thats how he monitors his fuel. Tires have 4k and are rated for 7k. Didn't ask about who made the seat. He's also throwing in a Shoei full face helmet worth about $300. All in all, its what I'm looking for and haven't heard many negatives about it. Big Twin is the authorized dealer and they do really good work.

On the Shoei: if it doesn't fit you perfectly, eBay it and buy one that does fit you perfectly.

Even a brain stupid enough to let itself be put on a motorcycle is still worth saving.  ;D

Almost bought one similar a few years back, though decided no more motorcycles until the kids are grown.  Love the BMW bikes!

Those are all good looking. Cruiser is too cool for me, the other two are to fast, kids to think about for me. Really like the way the Buell looks though.
