IMAX screen tonite, for free (I have a kid in the theater business). There is no way this movie can be as cool as it looks in the previews, can it?

Every once in a blue moon this happens. Let's hope this is one of those times.  [sm_eekdance]

according to early buzz,  visual beauty aside ,  the film is also made to be truly heard{felt} on a high end, very loud and full surround environment.

Just got back. 1240 show was sold out. Will definitely be the box office champ this weekend. I must say, it didn't meet my expectations. Considering that I usually don't go to the movies, the previews had me pretty excited to see it. IMHO, I could have waited for the DVD.

The avatar change tells me you give it two thumbs up.

So... best in last 3/6/12 months or what?  Any negatives?

I don't know...maybe seeing it as if I wasn't watching a PS3 game.  I think to much CGI takes away from a movie.

it , to me lived up to expectations.. negatives?  maybe too short.   not the best technical film in the last year (fountain, children of men, pans labyrinth), but the one i would most quickly and enjoyedly pay to watch again.

Well, I've seen it twice and enjoyed it very much. Spectacular in IMAX, it was a rare film in that it lived up to  my preview-based expectations. Don't look for deep meaning, political statements, award winning acting. Just get a big popcorn, relax, root for the Spartans and appreciate the effects and classic underdog storyline.

FWIW: I'm unashamedly squeamish (I'd faint if I had to watch an operation) but the blood in this movie didn't bother me a bit. I think its because it resembled comic book blood I guess.

Just got back.

For this old fuddy-duddy, it stayed a little too true to it's roots as a comic book, errr, graphic novel in that entirely too much of it looked to be computer generated animation of comic frames. Actually, some of it was actually the panels with almost NO animation, which was a little silly, really.

The plot wouldn't have cut the mustard in the old Stan Lee days.

Still, stunning to look at and absolutely MUST be seen in the theatre if you have any interest at all in it.

Besides, the REAL story is much more compelling....

This my plan for the NCAA tourney.   :)

The reviews from Teheran are in:

http://movies.monstersandcritics.com/news/article_1276120.php/Tehran_condemns_anti-Iranian_movie_300

Quote
Tehran - Iran on Monday strongly condemned the US film company Warner Bros. over the allegedly 'anti-Iranian' blockbuster film 300.

Javad Shamqadri, art advisor to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, told Fars news agency that the film was an insult to Persian culture and in line with the American 'psychological war' against Iran.

Sounds like a 'Thumbs Down' to me... ;D
