Title: Tour Tempo (Project)
Post by: stroh on March 08, 2007, 08:47:42 PM
Tour Tempo:

You guys may have heard of this.  It has a small cult following over at FGI.

I have read the posts, and was interested.  I poured over the website, and bought the book today.  It comes with a CD.

I like the premise.  It's an easy read.  Basically two drills, although the mantra is to avoid swing mechanics.

http://www.tourtempo.com/

I read 80 % of the book today, and threw the cd in when I got home.
I'm pretty pumped about it.

It seems to speak to me.  I agree with their philosophy.  I tried a few minutes with the beep..........beep..beep.

I like it.

I'm gonna follow their regimen, and I'll post results.  I'm a good month from seeing the course here, so..........

I honestly haven't seen the Tour Tempo product but I do know that tempo is at least 80% of my swing.  If my tempo is off, hello 97.  If it's on, look out low 80s.

Beep.... beep..beep sounds like a formalized go at Vijay Singh's se.... ven..teen drill.

I am poised and ready to pounce once you give the green light.

Much like Spock getting laid once every seven years, I glom on to the next swing guru.

LOL!  I've a Ho for gurus myself.

This is different, in the fact that it takes what I have been working on for years, and better organizing it for me.

We'll see.

He did.  The truth is, he's an idiot.

Too bad the Tempo folks are using that "secret revealed" line.  The philosophy is sound enough to stand on it's own.  There isn't much of a mystery.  Just swing in the prescribed frame references of good players.  A 3 : 1 ratio of backswing to impact.

i think the real tempo key is just allowing yourself to feel that coil at the top before starting the downswing-  -- WITHOUT-- allowing your arms to buckle in, go post-parallel  etc

I purchased TOUR TEMPO during the holidays, read, listened to the DVD, practiced, and then took it out on the course. My practice swings in the living room as I watched the video seemed impossibly fast in the beginning ... " I can't swing THAT fast," my brain said ... but then I sat down, flipped on the Golf Channel, and tapped out the tempo of the pro's swings ... and sure enough, they WERE that fast, and were close to the 3:1 tempo. I realized that my S-L-O-W backswing followed by a similar tempo forward swing (to avoid errors) was killing my distance--and not always helping to eliminate errors anyway. Despite my inner golfer screaming "You can't swing that fast without hitting it into the trees," I repeated the mantra, "Swing Speed = Distance" over and over again. Then I trotted out to my local course in late December, 40 degrees, not a recipe for big drives. WOW. My drives went anywhere from as far as in the summer, to as much as 20-30 yards further sometimes, with wet fairways. Repeat after me: "Swing Speed = Distance." I am not a big slicer anyway, but I now find it almost impossible to slice. The slightly abreviated backswing encouraged by the rapid tempo seems to short-circuit a host of swing plane ills (many of which occur in the final quarter of the backswing, in my estimation) while encouraging a more flowing, natural kinetic chain. I can audibly hear a much bigger "swoosh" at the bottom of my swing. The ball goes straight and far. My approach shots on par 4's are now 140 yards instead of 170. I have invested $25, and about 3 hours reading, practicing, and gained ALL of this good stuff with nary a pro lesson, and relatively little sweat. Now I simply chant, "Swing-(pause)-Set-Thru" and play better golf all the way from tee to green. Tour Tempo? For me, a big thumbs up.

Sweet!   Cool!  Nice write up.  Thanks, and congrat.s.  Welcome to GolfHos.

I never had time for it this year.  Still have the tones on my ipod, and listen from time to time when swinging a club, but that's about all I've had time for.

So when will you share's the beep-beep-beep MP3 files here? :)

I had a copy of that CD once! Once you get used to and able to reproduce the same tempo everytime (or most of the time) Its like the most forgiving club in you bag.

Problem is, I lost this CD 2 yrs ago when moving!  :sad3:

http://media.putfile.com/medium-41

http://media.putfile.com/slow-32-36

Find out which tempo suits you the best (I'm 21/7), and try using it during a range session. At first you'll struggle to keep in sync with the Tour Tempo tones, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy.

There are three tones repeated over and over with a percussion beat going on in the background. As soon as you hear the first tone (1), start your backswing. Don't anticipate it. They have accounted for the reaction time. As soon as you hear the second tone (2), start your downswing. The third tone should sound at the same time as impact.

Try to work the Tour Tempo tones to your preshot routine.

example:

Tone 1: both feet together with clubhead behind the ball

Tone 2: Left foot placement

Tone 3: Right foot placement

Then you can skip the next set of three tones, as you waggle and look at the target.

Start your swing on the set of three tones after that.
