Quote SAN DIEGO — Ping chairman John Solheim reminded the PGA Tour on Monday that it cannot make a separate rule to ban Ping Eye2 wedges, the 20-year-old clubs that led Scott McCarron to claim Phil Mickelson is "cheating" by using them. But then he says this... Quote "While I fully expect the PGA Tour to honor this agreement, I'm willing to discuss a workable solution to this matter that would benefit the game and respect the role innovation has played over the long history of golf," Solheim said. And of course, Finchem has a press conference tomorrow, so I'd guess the wedges are out at Tour events, but would still be accepted (excepted?) by the USGA. Nice non-apology apology by McCarron as well: 'I didn't say he was a cheater, I just said he was cheating'. Umm... Title: Re: This could be interesting... OTOH, my understanding is that the status of the irons and wedges in question is no different today than it was on Dec. 31st, 2009: Nonconforming, but legal for play under an exception granted by both the USGA and PGA Tour. I have seen these wedges turn up in various 'What's In The Bag' features over the years, and nobody said much, and sure as hell nobody used the 'C' word. Title: Re: This could be interesting...
