I am really hating the TAKS tests. Schools get graded and thus funded by the results. So pressure is on the teachers to teach the test, instead of teach the topics and let the test judge how well the students learn.

My son took a practice test a couple weeks ago and failed a section. I now have to have a conference with his teacher today. Teach the subjects and do tests throughout the year. You will know if he is doing well or not and we could have addressed the concern 3 or 4 months ago, not now with only 1 month before the test!

Pretty similar to the tests given to the kids in VA.  SOL - Standards of Learning.   Teaching is getting away from the curriculum and focused on SOL test scores (teaching the tests).

Fortunately for me, I can go online 24/7 and see my kids' grades, assignments, and notes on behavior.  We can identify any problem immediately and address it in a timely matter.  My oldest hates when I know his test/quiz score hours after he took it.
