Title: British Open Contest Post by: Uisce Beatha on July 16, 2007, 08:17:38 PM In response to encouraging overtures from the audience...
(http://www.slso.org/season/lighters.jpg) ... I suggest we have some sort of a Open Championship contest. Ideas? Maybe something like the darkhorse thing from the U.S. Open. Or perhaps we all pick a player from Australia, Europe, North America and Africa and total the prize money. Or something... Prizes? I still have my U2 DVD plus an extra If You Want Blood You've Got It CD. Anyone? Title: Re: British Open Contest Post by: Jules on July 16, 2007, 08:34:50 PM Whatever you decide will be fine from me!!!! ;D
I love these contests!!! ;D ;D Title: Re: British Open Contest Post by: Clive on July 16, 2007, 10:06:09 PM How about a blend of (a) winning score and (b) highest finishers from each of the US, UK and "International territory"?
Title: Re: British Open Contest Post by: Uisce Beatha on July 17, 2007, 08:10:51 AM How about a blend of (a) winning score and (b) highest finishers from each of the US, UK and "International territory"? As of right now there are 45 U.S. players, 42 from GB&I and 69 from elsewhere. That's a reasonable breakdown I think. Any objections to Clive's format? If not, I'll put it together before the end of the day. Title: Re: British Open Contest Post by: Fuzzy on July 17, 2007, 08:15:36 AM Sounds good to me.
Thanks Whiskey! I can donate a sleeve or two of balls if needed for prizes. Title: Re: British Open Contest Post by: Clive on July 17, 2007, 08:26:56 AM Any objections to Clive's format? I object, but only because it was Clive who suggested it.Title: Re: British Open Contest Post by: spacey on July 17, 2007, 08:37:14 AM Aside from the suggestion coming from a namby-pamby sweater vest wearing college boy, I'm okay with it. Dystopia deferred his sleeve of Laddie Xtremes from the NBA contest for future use. I can throw that in the prize pot if necessary.
Title: Re: British Open Contest Post by: Clive on July 17, 2007, 09:35:48 AM I can dig up an astounding prize, if asked nicely. Maybe a sweater vest or something.
Title: Re: British Open Contest Post by: stroh on July 17, 2007, 09:37:49 AM Ditto. I'll look around when I get home.
Title: Re: British Open Contest Post by: Uisce Beatha on July 17, 2007, 03:52:27 PM Alright, here we go. I simplified slightly from Clive's proposal. You get to pick one guy from each of the three groups. Tiger is excluded as I think pretty much everyone would pick him. If you guys disagree with that let me know and we'll make him eligible. Total winnings for your three players wins. Hopefully there are enough prizes to cover in the event of ties. Please, if you notice a change in the field let me know.

Even though some people lost a player to the cut, they still might have a chance if their team includes the overall winner. Title: Re: British Open Contest Post by: Uisce Beatha on July 20, 2007, 01:30:49 PM 3 of 3 made the cut but Rose and O'Hair aren't in the best of shape. C'mon Ernie!!!

Soldiers are we whose lives are pledged to Ireland; Some have come from a land beyond the wave. Sworn to be free, No more our ancient sire land Shall shelter the despot or the slave. Tonight we man the gap of danger In Erin's cause, come woe or weal 'Mid cannons' roar and rifles peal, We'll chant a soldier's song. In valley green, on towering crag, Our fathers fought before us, And conquered 'neath the same old flag That's proudly floating o'er us. We're children of a fighting race, That never yet has known disgrace, And as we march, the foe to face, We'll chant a soldier's song. Sons of the Gael! Men of the Pale! The long watched day is breaking; The serried ranks of Inisfail Shall set the Tyrant quaking. Our camp fires now are burning low; See in the east a silv'ry glow, Out yonder waits the Saxon foe, So chant a soldier's song.
