Title: Top 12 "germiest" places
Post by: Fuzzy on October 23, 2007, 11:25:41 AM
So I'm flying to Portland tomorrow for some meetings on Thursday. I know that airplanes aren't the healthiest place with recycled air, cramped conditions and such but I really enjoyed the detailed description of #2 on this list.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21423163/

2. Airplane bathrooms
It may not be a shock that there are a huge number of germs in most public bathrooms, but experts agree the cramped and overused ones on airplanes are the worst. There are often traces of E. coli or fecal bacteria on the faucets and door handles because it’s hard to wash hands in the tiny sinks. And the volcanic flush of the commode tends to spew particles into the air, coating the floor and walls with whatever had been swirling around in it.

Precisely why the "courtesy flush" is not a very good idea.

Yikes, I try to avoid airplane bathrooms as much as possible, but it's pretty difficult on international flights.

I was just thinking about #12 (The hotel-room remote control) last week when I was on vacation.  I often turn off the tv then take my contacts out.  [sm_disgust]

And another reason I will risk bladder explosion rather than go to the bathroom in an airplane.

Thanks, dys.  I just sat down in my hotel room and turned on the tv before reading this.  3 diet cokes on the way to the airport this morning did not allow me to avoid the airport bathroom.

I think I'm buying a jug of bleach on my way home tonight.  (Of course, then I have to worry about harmful dioxins that may or may not be produced:  http://www.thegreenguide.com/doc/95/bleach)

They did forget pets, though.  If the kitchen sink is bad, just imagine what your dog's feet are like.

No *feces*.

The article states there is generally 1 gram of feces in every pair of dirty underwear.  I am a commando guy myself, and I wipe my ass, does wearing underwear somehow now excuse this necessary, yet unpleasant task?

No.  Just means your pants are full of chit instead of your undies.   [sm_shock]
