LOL  I'm moving crap out of one bedroom to another bedroom on the opposite side of the house.

Thinking about leaving the living room tv on the hockey game and the kitchen tv on the draft as I walk back and forth past them.

One of the signs of the Apocalypse played out today.

jax take derrick harvey

this jax pick will make or break   krapper's  credibility more than anything in a long time.   he has their guy @ 23rd.   need @ position or not, you don't move up 18 spots  for a guy rated that low unless you think he's WAYYY higher than that.

And this is exactly why drafting a safety in the 2nd round is a head scratcher.

From ESPN on our 2nd round pick:

Quote
Johnson doesn't have great man-to-man cover skills and is going to have trouble matching up with slot receivers. Additionally, you would have liked to see him make more big plays against inferior competition.

erm.......

I would've taken Henne or Brohm or OL. We have defense.

NFL's leading sack leader and newest Viking says hi. [sm_wave] Madieu Williams & Michael Boulware too. ;)

lmao. ok.  while  allen and boulware are good and average players, respectively,   madieu williams is a perennial chump.    had you ever seen a steelers-bungles game, you would know this.  the only reason he remotely is still in the league is because kaesviharn was even worse and made him look good in comparison.   hines ward routinely burns this chump with simple slant routes, etc.

Johnson doesn't have great man-to-man cover skills and is going to have trouble matching up with slot receivers. Additionally, you would have liked to see him make more big plays against inferior competition.

erm.......

I would've taken Henne or Brohm or OL. We have defense.

HAHAHA, between him and madip*feces* williams you still can't cover a slot receiver.

i agree on QB.  if nothing else, you could have kept them out of your division-- and at least nobody in the division would have a really threatening QB.--- thus minimizing  tlames downside

chilly mcnerd shows a vote of confidence in  tlame  by passing on henne/brohm  there

And the Steelers showed they have no confidence in "Mr. double the fumbles than TD's" by getting Mendenhall. ;)

nope, as omar epps jr  said in the interview , they don't really need a RB  but that he's just way too good to pass up at that draft slot, regardless of lack of need.  basically when a top 10 player is available at 23, you take him. even if you already have 3 of him .

and funny that,  parkers career fumbling stats don't seem to bear out your claim.

Mendenhall:

Only carried the load for one season...Has some issues with ball security...Is not overly elusive...More quick than fast...Doesn't always play to his timed speed....A between-the-tackles-type who could have trouble turning the corner in the pros.

Maybe you will have 2 RB's that will have double the fumbles than TD's now. ;D

meanwhile, overall they will combine for less total fumbles than peterson will have, and the steelers as a team will put up more overall offensive points than the vikes while playing in a tougher division and conference.  go figure

so is your goal for the vikes to have the best running game in the league or to finally, once, actually go to the playoffs and win the SB?

because honestly,  the latter will not happen with your current roster,  while the former , certainly might.    i guess maybe if i were used to living in the market of teams where winning SBs  isn't routine and commonplace  i wouldn't be hungry for them either, and i would just cheer for meaningless things like best rushing tandems

Nah, it's just lame sad funny when the Steelers draft depth, "you can't pass him up" but when the Vikes do it, its the other side of the coin. ;)

so at the end of day 1,  steelers 2008 starting roster looks like

Big Ben (elite)
Parker / Mendenhall/ Davenport / Moore  (elite)
Miller (good-elite)
Holmes (elite), Sweed (?), Ward (good)
Smith-Kemoeatu-Mahan(or Hartwig)-Simmons-Colon (horrible to bad)

Smith, Hampton (good, elite), Kiesel (average)
Woodley, Harrison (good, elite)
Farrior, Foote (good, average)
Taylor, McFadden (good, good)
Polamalu, Clark (good-elite, average-bad)

yet despite this load, they'll be lucky to go 8-8
LOL

the steelers took another 1st round top 10 quality rb to go behind another top 10 quality RB , because he was available at 23.

now yes, more realistically the steelers need to take 3 top 30 quality linemen, none were available at 23. you'd already had the falcons move up to take a consensus mid 2nd rounder Lineman at #21 or whatever it was.

asking any non-biased-vikes-fan, and you will get the consensus observation:
the vikes CLEAR weakest spot is QB.

they had the chance to take the likely #1 pick from last years draft at QB  (if he had come out, dumb decision in hindsight to stay his senior year!) to replace (or even just backup and provide some 'incentive' competition) for their bottom 5 level QB,  and to only have to spend a mid 2nd round pick to do so.   now you get to see him go against you 2x a year for the next 8-10 years.  by 2011 he'll be picking you apart.

just a slight , slight difference.

i don't know why you take my criticism of your team , and your players so personally and dismissively-- I don't just make this up or say it out of spite.  I actually would like to see them do ok. (unless it's against the cowboys or steelers anyways)  at the risk of bragging, I would think you would throw at least a slight passing credence to my observations based on my thrashing of the fgi pickem and preseason pools, for instance.

amazing that another "if he came out a year ago"  top 10 pick has slid this far,  -- tommy blake , DE out of TCU.

if he stays on his mind meds,  and can change 15 pounds of gut he gained back into muscle, he can legitimately be a pro bowler.

if i were the steelers, I might even risk the pick instead of taking another OL

Hey. Hey. give him a break. He's a Duck.

Actually, if he recovers from the knee injury, you are going to very happy to have him on your team. Can't have too many QB's.

i thought he had a great season and was a top3 pick for heisman till he got hurt.

my issue with the pick is that theres about a 90% he isn't going to contribute this season at all.  if they want to convert him to WR  or use him for gadget plays, its a long term development with a huge upside, but they really needed another OL    this* year.   if they took him to get rid of charlie batch's contract in a year, thats a good bonus though.
