Title: Anyone ever built their own speakers?
Post by: Aske on October 19, 2007, 12:58:27 PM
With the advent of the internet, it's pretty easy to track down some great components (just like golf I guess)  that makes it tempting to get back into this (I played with some small cheap speaker builds back in High School... just out of curiosity in electronics).  There's also some great free software tools out there to design custom crossover networks-  this definitely wasn't around back in the day for me.  I'm considering maybe doing a 500W 15" sub.

You're not old enough to have a back in the day.   ;)

Keep us (me) updated.  Sounds interesting.

I built some speaker boxes for the Daihatsu Rocky I drove in college. Cheap Alpine 9x12s (IIRC) screwed into cheap pine cabinets that I made in my dad's woodshop. They sounded like crap. That was about it.

among everything else , you can buy the cabinets online nowadays too.  just cut out the parts of the panel you need to mount the driver and electronics.
