Title: Too much golf on TV, says Baker-Finch

Too much golf on TV, says Baker-Finch

Quote
"Six hours a day is ridiculous... (there should be) two or three hours Thursday and Friday and three hours Saturday and Sunday and really make a whizz-bang, you-beaut show out of it rather than a monotonous six hours.

"It's too much, people turn the sound down and have it in the background and watch the birds chirp in the trees and pretty colours.

I'm lucky if I can find 6 hours a week.

hmmm I dunno which Australia he's in...

For a start the Australasian PGA Tour consists a handfull of events, plus three main tournaments:

The Australian Open
The Australian Masters
The Australian PGA

These are the only ones that are televised. For 49 weeks of the year we dont have any golf on TV, unless you have cable. The Open and the Masters have 4 days of coverage and the PGA 2.

For the Open and the Masters, we get Thursday and Friday 11am to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday 12pm to around 5:30pm. The PGA runs 12pm to 5pm on the Sat and Sun.

The Open and the Masters runs over two consective weeks and the PGA is plyed in Feb I think.

For those of us who can't get to the course to watch it live this is the only way that we can get to watch our own guys doing their thing. Sadly Ian ("I ripped that 8 iron and it only went 110") Baker-Finch seems to have forgotten that he was one of the guys that people wanted to watch. Alas it seems his cushy TV job in the States has meant that he doesnt have to work as hard compared to what he'd have to do here.

I say to you Ian Baker-Finch, if anyone had to watch you play golf over 6 hours it would be the most painful 6 hours of golf ever. I would rather watch an 80 year old left handed war veteran at my local club play, because atleast he'd break 100.!! [sm_devil]

I think Ian Choker-Finch is saying you guys shouldn't be allowed to watch so much golf from the rest of the world.

It's because there's too much of the ROW on tv that he hurt his winkie, or something.

He probably wants there to be an hour a week from elsewhere, so the Oz public will be starved and watch the Australian Tour events giving bigger viewing figures, more revenue, more prize money, better fields, onwards and upwards.

I think his remarks have some merit, but there's a reason he used to be able to play golf and not win any debate awards.  Not everyone can be Ringer, he's just gagging now in the press like he did back when he had a card.
