Chicken-row boiling oil attacker jailed for six years

A man who poured boiling oil on his sleeping flatmate has been sentenced to six years' jail.

Mohamed Wahani, 24, was angry after a dispute with his flatmate Sahal Said, who criticised him for bringing back a whole takeaway chicken rather than a quarter portion.

After preparing a meal for himself some hours later, Wahani took boiling oil from the stove and poured it over Mr Said, who leapt from his bed screaming in pain.

Wahani pleaded guilty to intentionally causing serious injury over the attack on August 21 last year.

Sentencing Wahani in the Supreme Court today, Justice Mark Weinberg said Mr Said had suffered horribly from the attack which left him scarred for life both physically and emotionally.

"It was a cowardly act and one of great cruelty brought about by a dispute about almost nothing," Justice Weinberg said.

"That anyone could even contemplate pouring boiling oil over anyone else is utterly repellant."

Wahani will serve a minimum of four years before being eligible for parole.
