Title: Speculative Worst Remake Ever (ideas for bad tv show->movie remakes)
Post by: dystopia on October 24, 2006, 02:01:06 PM
So I read that there's going to be a Monkees remake.  Oddly enough, I read it in a golf magazine last night.  I think it might have been in the new Golf Digest Index (which is an odd magazine, I expected to open it up and see a picture of blader and spaceage sitting in a Pre-war Delahaye, drinking Scotch)

Anyway, it seems that Simon Fuller, of American Idol an Spice Girls fame, is putting together this decade's New Monkees.  Even though they have some old Simpsons producers involved, this has the potential to capture the title of worst remake ever.

There have been a lot of bad remakes of tv shows into movies recently (Dukes of Hazzard, Bewitched, Bad News Bears, Miami Vice), but I expect the studios to keep churning them out.  Since it's inevitable that even worse remakes will be planned, my question is, "what old tv show, if remade (im)properly, could capture the title of "Worst Remake Ever"?

Here's a few shows that I will LMAO if they're remade (I bet a few of them will)
--------------------
- F-Troop
- Manimal
- Knight Rider
- Smurfs
- Alf
- V
- He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
- Land of the Lost
- My Mother the Car
- Misfits of Science
- Fat Albert
- H.R. Puffinstuff

Remakes in progress that have a high flop potential
- Monkees
- Transformers
- Get Smart (Steve Carell might pull be able to pull it off, though)

What old shows can you think of that have the potential to be made into spectacularly bad remakes?

Wasn't there just a Fat Albert movie?

And you're way off base with Land of the Lost.  That show kicked ass.  What could be cooler than a Sleestack attack?  On top of that, Chaka is a cultural icon.

TJ Hooker should never be remade.  After all, you can only be hit by a car travelling 70 mph, roll across the hood, bounce off the pavement, and get up uninjured so many times.  TJ and his crew have used their full allotment.

CHiPs should be left alone as well.  The original Ponch and John can never be replicated.

Star Trek -- oh wait they've already done that one   (And I loved them all!)

Knight Rider would be awesome as a remake, maybe done in cheesy 007-style.

You're right, it looks like there was a Fat Albert movie in 2004.  I didn't even realize that.

I LOVED Land of the Lost.  I'm still freaked out by the Sleestack, although I despise Chaka to this day.

Actually, I like many of the shows on my list.  Part of my intent behind calling something a bad remake is that they don't do justice to the original and should have left the concept unmarred by a pale copy trying to capitalize on nostalgia.

Oh yeah, I forgot about The A-Team.  I can see someone pitching that remake today.

"Ten years ago, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The A-Team."

Looks like the Knight Rider remake is under way:

(but no Hoff! [sm_shock])

Weird, I didn't know that Glen Larson created both Knight Rider and Battlestar Galactica.

Well I should have done more research before starting this thread.

"Jack Black and Kirsten Dunst will apprently be joining Will Ferrell in the upcoming Land of the Lost remake..."

There is nothing new or original coming out of Hollywood. I'd say virtually any TV show from the last 4 decades is fair game for a speculative remake. I figure Small Wonder the movie can't be too far from getting the green light.

You've inspired me.  Chaka is now my avatar at that other site whose name escapes me.
