Title: When will the Patriots Lose?
Post by: dystopia on December 10, 2007, 03:21:30 PM
So a lot of folks were thinking that the best chance to spoil the Patriots' regular season was the Steeler game, but that's passed.

When do you think their next loss will be?

First .600 team after someone takes Brady out.   [sm_devil]

if they end up matched up against jacksonville and the weather is absolutely horrid for passing,  the jags will wipe them off the field in front of a stunned  bahstin crahd.

in the same scenario as above, if the steelers are at full strength (aka polamalu) and the play calling improves, the steelers might edge out a squeeker.

home field advantage might ironically cost NE the afc title, as they are a good, but not great running team when the pass is completely taken away from them (elements).

that's the only way they will lose until next preseason, unless as uisce points out, the old shula fins but a bounty on brady to preserve their perfect season record

Typically, I would be inclined to think an upset would come when it's least expected. However, I can't see NYJ or MIA being capable of pulling off an upset. Furthermore, if the Patsies are 15-0 going into the NYG name, I would think that they'd be pretty pumped to win that one. I'd say they could lose to a better rushing team in the playoffs if they had to play in a snow storm like in the "Tuck Rule" game. However, as it stands now, the teams in the AFC that might be able to beat them play in warm weather locales or in a dome.

I'd be worried they would lose in a playoff game.  Like Aske detailed above.

I said in an earlier thread, 19 and 0 would be damn near impossible, even for that team.  Having said that, I heard on the radio, at some point (I didn't catch when, and am too lazy to look it up) they reeled of 29 straight.  Supposedly that's why their not that caught up in all the undefeated hype.  In Tiger Slam fashion, they have already done it, and better.  They just want the ring.

I think Indy may be more of a challenge to get by than anyone. They are kind of flying below the radar with the "19-0" watch going on. Gonna have to play the game of their lives on defense though.

I think 16-0 is done. Jets are toast this weekend and Miami has no shot IMO. By the time the Giants game rolls around New York will have wild card clinched (most likely the 5 seed as well). They won't have a lot to play for other than ending the undefeated season.

I just think the Vikes will stub their toe (Denver?) at least one more time. And NYG won't lose all three.

But I'll defer to Common.  ;)

[Common high voice]  That's the beauty!  NY will lose to NE, and most likely Buffalo.  Then we hold the tie breaker!  And we can build this dream together, standin' strong for ever!  Nothin's gonna stop us now.......We're Comin'!  We're Comin'!  Seattle?  Dead.  Dallas?  Dead.  Green Bay? Dead.  Patriots?  Dead.[/Common high voice]

Against the Vikings in the Super Bowl! :D

I'm inclined to think that it would either be in the divisional playoff or championship game.  I don't see the Jets, Dolphins, or Giants winning.  On the other hand, I don't want to completely rule them out. [sm_dunno]

Still, losing to the Vikes in the SB doesn't sound bad at all. 8)

+1 -- playoff game in bad weather for the passing attack.

Reflecting on last night's game, it seems that the modern approach to NFL success is a potent-as-hell offense and a defense that's good against the pass (and not particularly against the run).  Get a lead, force the other team into catch-up mode, then lay back and play against the pass.  Even if the losing team runs the ball extremely well, time is their enemy -- they have to go to the air.

For the most part, the Pats win by ringing up a lead and forcing the other team's offense to become more or less one-dimensional, which greatly simplifies the task for the NE defense.  Take that potent-as-hell NE passing game away, though ... and I'm not so sure they win against a good team that doesn't rely so utterly on its own passing game for production.

Yeah, but, if I had said "I'm not certain," would that have been as interesting to read? ;)

Besides, I did say that I thought it would probably be in one of the playoff games.  So I was a bit decided.  Not much, but a little bit. :D

Didn't see her, but I was there for only a moment.  She was last logged in here at 04:09:03 p.m today, though, and her last post was just yesterday so I don't think there's any reason to worry yet.
