General / The Cantina / Re: Lottery Players?

Normally, I'm something of an optimist, but when it comes to the lottery (or really any other gambling games), I don't really believe I'll win more than I put in. So, I don't bother playing. In Vegas, I'm one of those folks that finds the change machines to be the most fun. Guaranteed payout!

#4 It's been 10 years since I've been on my own? (Again, no clue as to song title. I really just know songs from singing along with the radio - hopefully I've been singing the right words! ) Just did a google search - I didn't *quite* get the lyrics right, but I won't post what it really is. I'll let you non-googlers guess first.

What does everyone store their recipes in? I've been looking for some decent freeware or open source software where I could store all of my recipes. Right now, I just have a bunch of sheets of paper with recipes scribbled on them all over the place.
That's how I store the really well organized ones. Ditto. I checked out a shareware recipe storage program a long time back. It was cool - you could print out the recipes in nice formats, it did calorie/nutrition calculations for you automatically, and even had a by food search feature (as in, "I have ten pounds of cheddar cheese and a loaf of old bread, what can I make?"). Unfortunately, when it comes to actually doing the cooking, it's a pain to have a computer on the kitchen counter. Splattering grease doesn't mix well with laptop screens. So, I have stuck with the folder of note paper and web printouts.

The snow photos look beautiful. It's just sort of grey here -- we might get some wind, maybe a teeny bit of rain tonight. It definitely doesn't feel like winter.

Wow - just checked cooks.com for chile verde recipes. No wonder you had a hard time finding a good recipe.
The first recipe I read called for canned tomatoes instead of tomatillos. I suppose it would taste fine, but it wouldn't be very verde, now would it?
The second recipe did call for tomatillos, but it went on to say that tomatillos were just green tomatoes. I know the plants are kind of related, but, then again, so are dill and fennel, but you wouldn't want to swap those two.

I love chile verde, but I've never made it. Blader - your recipe sounds just like the one my favorite Mexican restaurant uses - mild and with lots of sauce/broth. The next time I find fresh tomatillos...
