Title: NY Trip sucking thus far
Post by: hobbit on December 16, 2007, 11:27:29 AM
Plane was an hour late yesterday, we get to the front of the line for take-off..... and have to return to the gate because of a maintenance issue, de-plane, and re-board.  Finally take off 2 1/2 hours late.  Get to baggage claim..... no bags.  45 minutes later me and about 8 other people on the same flight are all headed to the baggage service desk.... which has a line out the door already.   Grrrr.

Hotel Internet access is horrid - lucky to get my VPN connection to work to run occasionally.  Its raining.  And 18 hours later they still have no idea where my bag is [sm_cussing].  My bag with everything in it - all my clothes, camera, phone charger (which will be real important by the end of the day  :sad3:), etc.  Looking for stores right now rather than watching much football.

The only good thing thats happened is that I walked directly across the street from the hotel, into an Irish pub, and got to watch Arsenal beat Chelsea, drink a few beers, and have some Guinness stew.

Off to buy some clothes and a phone charger I guess  [sm_cussing]  [sm_angry8]

That sucks.

Curious - was it a direct flight or did you have connections? I don't get the missing bag thing on non-stops provided you've checked in on time.  I've been really lucky through the years but I know what a pain in the ass it is you're going through.

The tip from my FIL, who traveled extensively for his job: always take a carry-on with your toiletries, a change of clothes (or at a minimum, fresh underwear), and anything that you cannot do without for 48 hours after landing.

So I take it, that you are not going to start bounding down the streets of New York, singing New York, New York, Frank Sinatra style. ::) ::)

Wait a minute, I think I got the Frank Sinatra thing wrong, I am sure that Rickhicks is a more of a high kicking Liza Minelli, New York, New York kind of guy. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm a seasoned traveler as well and have most things covered - its all the tailored pants, shirts, camera, and phone charger thats pizzin me off.  Freaking place a block away wants $90 for a freaking charger - fuggem I say.   For now   :-[

If any of you have heard me sing, you know I'm not trying it in NY - the locals would stuff me in the subway to drown out the sounds.

I am going to see Phantom of the Opera even if I have to buy new clothes to do it - so suck it ya theater sniping bums!  ;D

A friend of mine has seen POTO in something like a dozen cities.  He's also on a never-ending search for the ultimate bowl of French onion soup.

No, no, no!!!  LOL!!!  He's totally straight!!!  I swear!!!

Has anyone heard from our intrepid traveler. Did his stuff show up or is he just wandering around Manhattan disheveled and dirty??

Life is good again!  ;D

Complained about the poor Internet service and got switched to a room closer to an AP - still not perfect, but much improved.... and its a bigger room  :)

The location I'm getting the training at had a drawer full of phone chargers, so I didn't have to buy one this morning  :).

My bag was located and delivered to the hotel this afternoon, so I returned a little while ago to all my stuff in perfect condition  ;D

Incidentally Uisce, the lads at the bar watching EPL matches yesterday were debating the assignment of Capello as the new coach.  A few guys were excited about it, the others pizzed it wasn't an englishman.  They were singing the praises of your boy Redknapp.  Freaking Chelsea fans, so what do they know!  ;)

Did you see that "Land of Confusion" style bit with Jose after the Pool v. Utd. match yesterday?  It was damn near the funniest thing I've ever seen.

No, no, no!!!  LOL!!!  He's totally straight!!!  I swear!!!

So I sat down tonight at the Majestic Theater to see Phantom and took a quick little poll of a few of my friends via text messaging.  Question was:  "just sat down to watch Phantom all by myself, does that make me gay?"

Responses.....

1)  just one more reason.
2)  perhaps, but at least you didn't go to cirque du soleil during the cardinals playoffs!  (he missed the LCS championship game in '06 like this... and we never let him live it down)
3)  no, its the framed asia poster that makes you gay
4)  no, i think its all the cocks you have sucked!

So, my friends are not a big help.  ::) :finger:

The show was great.  Had a margarita at a cuban restaurant afterwards (and some good paella) that curled my freaking toes!  Seriously the strongest bar margarita I've ever had - perhaps even stronger than my own  [sm_shock]
