So, we lose the NBA and get MLS. I'm thinking that's better than a fair trade. Now if we could do just a little better than Junior Hockey (which I support, willingly) things would be good... I'm thinking there's not much of a gap between the top of USL (Seattle) and the bottom of MLS (Salt Lake). I think I read the success of the local USL team weighed heavily in the decision, as well as a wealth of local talent to build on. Hard to compete with Paul Allen and hollywood I guess. We had the backers, a pretty good plan for a stadium, and an agreement between all the local soccer organizations to come together for player development - but I guess the sure thing with Allen and Qwest Field was too much to pass up. Tis a shame - we have a good soccer tradition in St. Louis and would have been good supporters of a team. :'( |
