Neither.

http://socalskateshop.com/index.php?l=product_list&c=300

If you want something a little more up to date than a reissue of what you were riding before, I'd direct you here:

 http://socalskateshop.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=10582

Which would still be a familiar 80's feel, but modern concave and a nosekick. Indy 149/169's and a nice soft wheel to get you back on track:

So If I'm following, what is offered on c.l. is ok, or I could follow your links and build something I may like better for essentially the same money?

Just tried to do some quick math.

PS: I notice SoCal's site is almost impossible to navigate to actually build a complete from the deck section anymore...

Call the number and ask for Mike. He's the owner and somewhat younger than me and possibly a tad older than you.

And yeah, he farking RIPS!

What's on CL is cheap chinese crap for 11 year olds who don't know any better.

Follow the link and spend a couple of bucks...

They're like golf clubs. I'm sitting on 3 completes and a loose deck, and I've downsized, LOL...

To answer your math question: Figure 150 bucks to get a decent setup.

For frame of reference, my park board is

40" Gravity Brad Edwards (I'd ride the 35" in a second, and it would actually be better for the deathstar pool)

169mm Indy's

Bones yellow truck bushings.

9/16 risers

64mm Bones SPF wheels

Indy Bearings

That place looks empty.  No young punks there?  Or, since it's Palm Springs, are you one of the young punks? (along with the exhausted-looking bent over dude*)

*there's probably a Clive joke in there somewhere, but it's just not as fun anymore

 ;D

It was a lot deader than I thought it would be which was nice for me to save on the embarrassment and getting in people's way factor.  Even still I got asked "Haven't been on a board in a while?"  LOL  And ironically enough by that dude in the pic.  He looked to be about my age.

Then there were 6 to 8 teenagers and a hand full of 5th to 6th grade kids.

That's some quality old man territory there!

Was it fun? What was the best part for you?

Ah it was great.  Yes it was a lot of fun.  It was a blast.  I regret putting it off so long.  I've found 2 more parks closer to here that I plan to hit.

Best part was dropping into the bowl the first time.  Not truly dropping in.  This pool (not shown in the pic) was a 2 level.  I walked in, and the skated down into the bowl, but that first rush down then up to the kick turn.  Man that was sweet.  Felt good and brought back so many memories.

Second time went ass over tea kettle.  Good stuff.

Can't wait to go back.

Geez, stroh, when you are going to start assimilating to that California lifestyle? You've already been there half a year, and you've only played golf on a regular basis, hung out at the pool with some beer after work, gotten into the car to drive one block, gone to Vegas about 150 times, bought a skateboard, etc.

Indeed!   ;D  Don't forget hung out with movie stars and golf pros.

I bitch about it plenty but I seem to be assimilating nicely.  8)

Oh, almost forgot.  Next is surfing.  This dude I work with is from San Diego originally and we have talked about it several times.  I think this weekend or next we'll say *fudge* it and take off and do it.

Will do.

I draw the line at flip-flops however.

Saw Tom Bosley in the hallway yesterday.

And HIPPA regulations prevent me from providing any details but I think I can say that I spend about 8 hours a day in activities that may or may not have provided the opportunity to spend, say 45 minutes with this dude's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sumner_Redstone) brother.

So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know?" And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Worth a shot.

I was actually going to recommend that as plan B

My problem is I can barely stand up on anything under about 30 inches, and the trucks don't turn on them *goshdarn* things...

It worked really well, and in fact it was the opposite for me.  The guy that noticed I hadn't skated for a while recommended I tighten the trucks.  He didn't have a wrench with him or I would have taken him up on it.  When I upgrade I'll see if Maddie wants this one.

I still think I want to go with a wider board.  What I'm used to from my early days.

Want to head out today to another park.  Smaller one and closer but it looks like rain so we'll see.

Oh, and the fact that I was the only one in the park over the age of 12 with a helmet and pads on.  LOL   ;D

Every board I have has wheelbite marks, and that's on at least 3/8 risers, so I like my stuff turny. Then again, I don't do kickflip tricks, but I can manage a pop shuvit once in a while.

8" is a nice width, and lots of good 129mm trucks out there. I see alot of Ventures and Krux.

Well I got my 9 bucks worth.

Broken front truck after about 20 minutes today.

All right, time to spend some money.

Yeah I don't do/not interested into any of those street ride tricks.  I just like bowl riding old school.  Half pipe. I wish I could find a park with some slalom type runs.  That is what I grew up on.
