How the blazes is finding a rat in a salad worth $1.7 mil?  It's disgusting, yes, but in all seriousness, what are the damages?

Plus, how can you not notice a six inch long rat in a salad? "Boy, that's one big ass hairy crouton!!"

i dunno, if i found a rat in a salad i would expect it to be worth far more than 1.7$M.

if it happened to me (and yes, I DO KNOW WHAT FDA ALLOWS  in foods, etc)...   actually  *seeing* it  would force me to never eat out again, and the time/stress of having to cook EVERY meal the rest of my life is certainly worth more than 1.7$M

$.02

I have no idea how I would react if it happened to me.

On the one hand, I'm pretty sure that I've eaten some nasty stuff unintentionally already just because of the probabilities, but I just didn't know about it.  I've even intentionally eaten some odd things from other countries just to see what it was like.

But on the other hand, the McRib story from several years ago always bothered me.  I don't have time to look it up, so it may be myth, but I remembered it as the person noticed it was a rat after having already taken a bite out of it.  The image of discovering a half-eaten rat that I had just eaten really bothered me and it didn't even happen to me.

Yeah, but it said that she ate part of the salad before noticing it.  Seems to me you would notice it straight away.  If not immediately, I would think when you apply the dressing and mix the salad up you would notice a half foot long rat.

Burzoom, I've worked first hand on insurance claims involving fatalities that didn't net $1 mil in damages.  A rat in a salad just won't get you anyhting like that.  There are no tangible damages. The entire damage value is based upon alleged future phobia/pyschosis, and that's going to be very tough to prove and sell.

I'm just not buying the whole story.  The burden of proof will be on Haley, and since he went home and called about the rat afterwards, he can't prove where it came from or whether it was actually in the salad that was given to him at the restaurant.  He could just as well planted it there himself, much like the infamous "finger in the Wendy's chili" lady.
