I've been on the lookout for a new driver, since I gave my best one away, last year. For a couple of years, I had been using a Dynacraft Copperhead Tour 11° driver with a Grafalloy AMP stiff flex shaft, and it was a great fit for me. I also wanted to make some swing changes considering my older, more decrepit body. I used to make a 3/4, or so swing, with a quick tempo and transition. This worked well, but I wanted smooth things out. Also, a wrist injury, in the fall of 2005 took a long time to heal.
So, last year, I decided to change to a reg flex shaft, and figured I might as well try a new club. 
 
Anyway, last year was pretty much a disaster. I had a few decent rounds, but many were less than stellar. First of all, I was switching drivers every other week. I had a few to choose from. I tried the Dynacraft driver, but with the swing I was now using didn't do anything good. I found myself hitting many short, sort of right, puffballs, and when I tried for more distance, it got worse. It took most of the year to figure out the problem. After videotaping my swing, and comparing it to the previous years swings, I noticed that the best swings involved a shorter backswing. As I reached for more power, my left elbow would break down and the club would get layed off at the top. I could not recover by the time I reached impact and the club head would be wide open. Just about the time I figured it out, in September, I started a new job. That was the end of my golf, for the year.
Last week, I picked up an Adams RPM 460 Draw driver with a Prolaunch Blue Reg flex shaft. I tried the Stiff, but it seemed to clunky for me. The reg felt nice. The club seemed to hit straight, on the monitor, unless I felt myself reaching back too far. The amount of fade/slice was minimal, so I bought it.
So, yesterday afternoon, I took it, my #4 Hybrid, an 8 and 9 iron from 2005, some Dynacraft 325Ls, and last years 8-iron, a Raven cavity back. The older irons have a stiff shaft, while the newer club has a reg shaft. I began very slowly, since I hadn't done this in a while. It was cold and damp, but there were heaters in the stalls. The range uses limited distance balls, and the balls were in pretty poor shape, to boot, so I didn't figure to be hitting the fences. As I loosened up, I went from the 9-iron to the Raven 8-iron. Ball flight was very nice, high, and pretty much on target. Distance was acceptable for the conditions. I tried the 325L 8-iron, but the grip was pretty slick and I was gripping it too tightly. I graduated to the hybrid which took a few hits before I got the effect I was looking for, and then it hit straight and long. I figured it ws time for the driver. The one thing about the Adams is the shallower than normal face for a 460 cc driver. It took a few tries to find a tee that was the proper height. When I finally did, the effect was awesome. Straight, on target, shots. Aside from a couple of low hooks, the ball flight was a pleasing height without and balooning. Then I hit a shot where I felt I made a rather ugly swing and cut across the ball. I expected a big slice, but the ball went straight with just a bit of a fade. I could see the ball move to the right, but no more than 10 feet before it straightened out.
Then, as the daylight was dimming, I was no longer able to follow the ball. I finished up with some short irons, and left pretty satisfied.

As the weather gets warmer and your body starts to reacclimatize to swinging a golf club, you may well find the Prolaunch to start spraying a bit.  There's nothing wrong with have a club speced for wet/cold conditions and one for dry/warm where runout becomes more important.

Good to hear that you're on to something.  I never liked the ProLaunch that much, but I think our swings are probably pretty different.  8)

I've heard good and bad about the Prolaunch. Those that like it think it' spretty stable. Others have the opposite opinion. We'll see as time goes on. I was really thinking of the PL 75 rather than the 65, but that's what came with the club. I expect that by spring I will be experimenting more. I moved recently and my clubmaking tools are stored in the back of a storage shed. Good planning, on my part.  ::) [sm_oops]

glad to see somebody likes the  PL  indeed.  i can't hit that thing at all
