Title: Azinger to be Named Ryder Cup Captain
Post by: dystopia on November 01, 2006, 02:26:49 PM
I hadn't seen this before, but this had been speculated.

Golf Channel reports Azinger to be next captain

**edit** it's actually an AP story on the Golf Channel site.

No. The Euros will own the Ryder Cup until the Americans can figure out how to play/win as a team.

Interesting.  I didn't see this earlier that Azinger will get 4 captain's picks.  Probably still won't matter, though.

Paul Azinger took over the U.S. Ryder Cup team in more ways than one, persuading the PGA of America to give him four captain's picks and revamping the criteria so that money and majors determine who makes the team.

Take a look at the top 50 players in the world rankings.  I know this doesn't match the criteria used for team selection but, seriously, if you had to take the top twelve for each team who'd you rather captain?

Europe (and the rest of the world for that matter) are better and deeper than the United States.  The States has the best player in the solar system and probably the better top three but after that, forget it.

After I posted that I read between the colors and I think the U.S.A. is toast in next year's Presidents' Cup too.  LOL.
