I've been a long time fan of Tax Avoidance.

Tax Evasion, I'm not so keen on...

 ;)

I'm sure San Mateo county will survive without Ellison's property tax. Still Ellison's a douche.

Given the town manager's comments ...

Quote
Woodside will lose about $78,000 from the $130,000 in property taxes it collected on the Mountain Home Road property during the past few years, Town Manager Susan George said. Nevertheless, she doesn't begrudge Ellison.

"He went through a process that was laid out by the law," she said. "It shouldn't make any difference how much money he has if the process was fair."

That said, she added: "We'll miss the money; we always have good things we can do with it."

... why is Ellison ridiculed?  Anyone can ask that his property be re-assessed -- I work with folks who've done it.

I call Ellison a douche for reasons other than getting his property reassessed.

Same goes for belaboring the point about where the money was tagged to go - an emotional plea to vilify someone for something everyone does, or can do.  I guess I should go scold my neighbors when I get home, they successfully challenged their assessment last year and probably deprived the school district of much needed money.  I'll be sure and let them know they can eat a fat one.

But Ellison is still a douche  ;)

Tip for the future I guess.  If anyone here runs into a chit load of money - build the ugliest multi-million dollar home evar!  Since no one will want to buy it you can get it assessed cheap and save tax dollars.  :P

I've challenged my assessment and won.  It's always worth trying.  You almost always win.

There's an added joy in depriving Davis School District of my tax dollars.

I, like Ellison, am a douche.

DING.  DING DING.

also, just out of curiosity, how many of you again make enough $ that you can afford to go through reassessments  when you're quibbling over taxes that represent approximately 1/10000th of your net worth

I think you're overestimating the effort required to reassess - its quite easy.

Don't sell yourself short.

You should have your self-worth reassessed.

Werd.

i assume it requires some amount of a fee, time , phone calls, and paperwork, doesn't it?

if so, and you're worth $1M, to make the case equivalent, you're fighting over $100 in taxes.

just seems like to me most people worth that much, their time/effort is worth more.

Even so, what's your point?  Other than "rich people suck".

my point isn't no such thing.  just that most of them have a complete disconnect from the realities facing 99% of the people who they rely(ied) upon to build their fortune to begin with.  :)
 :'(

besides, have you ever seen a photo of this clown?  i'm sure even most of his co-richies  hate him  [sm_devil] ;)

I'm pretty sure $3M is real to even Warren Buffet.

If you want to attack his perception of reality - building that fargin property the way he did is a better example.  ;)

Spill the wine.

Take that pearl.

Settle for a overfed, short-haired stumbling halfling?

ditto the hobbit.

no fee, very little time, no calls required, very little paperwork.

the process is actually simpler than most people realize. I've done it once.
