Title: Slow Morning? Post by: Uisce Beatha on July 26, 2007, 07:59:29 AM Let's get it rolling.
Let's have your three favorite songs. Not by genre, not four or five, not bands v. soloists, just give me up to three favorite songs in no specific order.
Now, that was tough for me. I had to leave out some others that I really, really like. If I can do it, so can you. Title: Re: Slow Morning? Post by: Teed on July 26, 2007, 08:02:14 AM My Philosophy - BDP
Back in the day - Notorious B.I.G. Eyes w/out a face - Billy Idol Title: Re: Slow Morning? Post by: spacey on July 26, 2007, 08:13:56 AM Probably not really my three all time favorites, but they're up there, and they're the ones occurring to me right this second:
The Boxer- Simon and Garfunkel Fade to Black- laMetallica Untitled- The Cure Title: Re: Slow Morning? Post by: Blader on July 26, 2007, 08:23:10 AM Children of The Sun-Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs

The Long Run Stayin' Alive Title: Re: Slow Morning? Post by: Uisce Beatha on July 26, 2007, 08:27:14 AM Children of the Sun is a great tune but I thought only a dozen people had ever heard it. I burned it to a party CD once and zero of about 40 people at the party knew it.
Title: Re: Slow Morning? Post by: Walfredo on July 26, 2007, 09:46:13 AM Really tough to come up with just 3 but here goes it:
A Day in the Life - The Beatles The Good Times are Killing Me - Modest Mouse The Curtain With - Phish Title: Re: Slow Morning? Post by: Blader on July 26, 2007, 09:59:44 AM UB--He's a very recent fave.
I came to know of him rather obliquely, while out on chautauqua a few months ago, during a coffee bar chat with some friends. The question turned to, "Who is the most famous guy you've ever coded?" and this ER doc from Sydney who was with us, a friend of a friend, told the story of how he was involved in the final treatment of one Billy Thorpe. After a collective, "Who?" he told the story of a group that could have just as easily been the Beatles, or the Stones, or Zepplin, if they only had their *feces* together and then someone managed to find the cut on his laptop, and I got to thinking, like the ****-obsessed Yossarian in Catch-22, lamenting all the great musicians I'll never hear because I never heard of them. Title: Re: Slow Morning? Post by: gleek on July 26, 2007, 10:07:35 AM Tangerine - Led Zeppelin
Mr. Crowley - Ozzy Osbourne Going the Distance - Bill Conti Title: Re: Slow Morning? Post by: gleek on July 26, 2007, 10:13:50 AM Fade to Black- laMetallica Is that a French Metallica tribute band? Title: Re: Slow Morning? Post by: spacey on July 26, 2007, 10:17:42 AM Fade to Black- laMetallica Is that a French Metallica tribute band? Nah, it was just for Aske's benefit. I guess for this moment (meaning which of my favorites I'm listening to at the moment are especially a favorite): We Are Not Alone - Soundforth Singers and Orchestra In All Things God Works for Our Good - Kevin Inafuku (btw, in an old thread, which by the time I saw a reply I didn't want to bump up like my sibling likes to do, there was a question about the pronunciation of his name. I think it's IN-uh-FOO-koo.) Winds of Trial - Honeybee Quartet Title: Re: Slow Morning? Post by: stroh on July 26, 2007, 09:19:06 PM Sweet Child O' Mine. The Long Run Stayin' Alive Since it's still a little slow, I'll give Uisce a nod, and expound on my choices. ;) Sweet Child O' Mine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDeGbMr1I1E) Probably my favorite song of all time. Why? I don't know. The song itself......For me.....One of the best guitar intros, and solos evar. To my ear...cool. Everyone knows it. Like it or not. Revolutionary? Meh...... Prolific? I think, maybe. It may have sparked a genre of metal "ballads". I don't think it was intended as such, but it did bring "hair metal" into the mainstream. Funny thing is, it's 20 years old. The Long Run (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpIsuH2aqLM) I almost started a thread similar to this, asking for just one band. For me, based on overall content, listen-ability, enjoyment, etc. For me it would be the Eagles. I grew up in Florida in the 70's. I listened to them a lot. I always go back to this song, as an anthem to my(our) life. "Who is gonna make it? We'll find out in the long run (in the long run) I know we can take it if our love is a strong one (is a strong one) Well, we're scared, but we ain't shakin' Kinda bent, but we ain't breakin' in the long run..." Ah, yes. Does it get any better than this? Stayin' Alive (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQifYc62LSM) Once again, I grew up in the seventies. I was in the theater to watch Grease when this preview came on.........I'll never forget it. It was a completely different time. This was huge. Like it or not, it is Americana. Go to a wedding reception that you don't hear it played. It's an icon. [Edit: http// url/ web addresses fixored. I sukk at teh internets. :sad3:] Title: Re: Slow Morning? Best song on very good album. Of course, it falls just short of being great album as it couldn't hold a candle to Hotel California. :D Title: Re: Slow Morning? Post by: Dunk on July 27, 2007, 11:27:28 AM 1) Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan...best song of all-time
2) Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits 3) lots of other Dylan songs are tied for third. As far as classical music goes: Russian Easter Overture - Rimsky-Korsakov 1812 Overture - Tchaikovsky I also love Irish traditional music. It makes me want to go to Ireland every time I hear it. Title: Re: Slow Morning? Post by: Walfredo on July 27, 2007, 11:48:32 AM Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits [sm_thumbsup] Love that song. Title: Re: Slow Morning?
