Title: Favorite movie
Post by: Spanky on January 11, 2008, 05:56:10 AM
We all talk about movies, what we like, don't like. What is your favorite all time movie.

Mine would have to be Raiders of the Lost Ark. For some strange reason I also always liked Time Bandits.

These of course also are standards:
Caddyshack
Blazzing Saddles
Animal House

Hard to pick one. (obviously)

For me, I'm stuck between.

"As far back as I can remember, I've always wanted to be a gangster."

"Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dustin' crops boy."

"We can't.  Why not?  Because we're being hunted."

Probably Dr. Strangelove

I never tire of that one.  Brilliant all the way through.

i'll have to give 2 answers.

Irreversible: for achieving that which most films can't. affecting you so powerfully, so forcefully, that you basically can't forget it.  it's experience is truly fitting of its name.

for something that I truly enjoy throwing in at any time, any occasion, that if i'm channel surfing and it's on I'll watch it, etc...

Tombstone

[sm_thumbsup2]   I still can't believe Forrest Gump won the Academy Award that year.

I'm not sure I could narrow it down to one film. I'd really have to think about this one.

You can name a couple. I know I have a hard time saying one is my favorite.

Shawshank is in my top five for sure.  This is a tough question as it kinda depends on genre, mood, etc.  For example, I wouldn't put a comedy down as my favorite film ever but A Fish Called Wanda and Animal House would easily make the short list.

Runner up:

Cannonball Run

While watching that intro clip a question popped into my head - has there ever been a movie with more recognizable names (albeit "b" and "c" list actors) than this one?

For me, Casablanca and Shawshank will always be in my top 5 - as they are usually my top 2  :)

Far too many good, quirky comedies to list for me.

Well boys, if this isn't the best western ever made, it's on an awfully short list.  If it's on tv, and I stumble across it, I'm watching it.

Tombstone rocks. Another one I like is Silverado.

Has some great lines:

"We're going to give you a fair trial, followed by a first class hanging."
"I don't want to kill you and you don't want to be dead."

Hard to pick even a couple for me, especially movies you all haven't named already.

The Outlaw Josey Wales
-Man's gotta make a livin'.
-Dyin' ain't much of a livin' boy.

And the scene between Josey and Ten Bears still gives me goose bumps.

The first 45 minutes of Full Metal Jacket culminating in the bathroom scene is one of my faves.
-Saving Private Ryan, the first scene is as close to war as most people will see.
-Schindlers List

-Lawrence of Arabia
I still love the old silent movies, especially Charlie Chaplin, the man was a genius at film making in a time when it wasn't easy to make film.

-One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
-Taxi Driver

I could go on, part of having several voices in your head I guess, they all have different tastes.
