We've already got 7 people signed up for our NCAA Tournament bracket contest, but I bet we can do better than that.   It should be a lot of fun.

The first round starts Thursday.

Prizes:
1st prize - 1 box of the premium balls of your choice (aka Pro V1/x, HX Tour/56, B330/s, TaylorMade, etc.) 
2nd prize - 1 sleeve of Callaway HX Tour balls
3rd prize - 1 sleeve of Bridgestone E5 balls

How to join:
1) Go to http://golfhos.mayhem.sportsline.com/e
2) login with your sportsline account or create one
3) the password for our golfhos group is "golfhos" (without the quotes)
4) Fill out your bracket with the teams you think will win.

You'll be able to make your selections once the teams are all set on Sunday, March 11.

Oh yeah, even if you don't know anything about college basketball, you should fill out a bracket anyway.  It makes the tournament much more fun.  Plus, if you end up winning, it makes everyone who thinks they know what they're doing look foolish. ;D

Yeah, it's easy to just pick the better seeded teams most of the way through and make a few exceptions based on uniform color, appealing mascots, or whatever you prefer.  You'd be surprised at how well a bracket like that can do.  Just don't pick a 15 seed to get to the finals or anything too wild like that.

In, and in. WTF does "Best Score" mean and why is Aske already in the lead?

I'm guessing that Aske is in the lead because of alphabetical sorting.

Best score looks to be the highest possible score one can get based on their picks assuming all remaining games go their way.  Since the seeds come into play in the point scoring, it looks like Aske picked several upsets or worse seeds to go far.

Best score can be really useful when one of your final four picks gets eliminated in the second round, and you can determine how much you're really out of it. [sm_anon]

Makes sense. As I mentioned that I will be, at best, teh sukk in this contest, it really matters not.

IIRC, Best score is exactly how you described it. It is nice to see what your potential best score is as your teams are getting knocked out left and right.  :)

There were so many variations of "eagle" taken it wasn't funny. :(  At least I can also choose what I want to display in the personal settings. :)

I've beat you several times with the bracket picks, buster, and you'd do well to remember that!

However, your track record for the drawings done at the Nature Center was uncanny.  4 consecutive years he enters a random drawing, and 4 consecutive years he wins the thing!

Stroh is originally from Flordia, so I picked Florida.
My daughter's name is Georgia, so I picked Georgia State.
Spacey's from Utah, so I picked Utah etc, etc.

I picked some early round upsets, but not really many making it past the 2nd or 3rd round. I haven't followed NCAA hoops enough this season to really make any educated picks for legitimate upsets. So yes, I played it safe. I don't have Florida taking it all though.

hehe, I listen to sports radio all day at work, so I figure any picks that I make now will be second-guessed and changed over the next few days, so I'm going to wait.

I am tempted to create a test bracket, though, that makes picks purely according to the seeds.  It probably wouldn't do well in our seed-weighted format, but it might be entertaining to see just how well someone would do if they put no thought into it. ;D

how about a little monte carlo program that does some sort of umbrella type biasing ...etc...
