Title: New Year 2010 Mojo needed for Sal !
Post by: Aske on January 01, 2010, 08:24:38 PM
after quite a fun last 5-6 hours in the ER,  we found out that next week she'll likely be scheduling some sort of removal of a 3cm one of these  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallstone)   [sm_shock]   :sad3:

[sm_shock] Well, that's not a pleasant way to start off the new year.

Best of luck, Sal. It's unfortunate that this isn't the kind of stone that you can just piss out. (Well, come to think of it, maybe you're fortunate you won't have to try to piss it out.)

BTW, did the ER doctor give you a diagnosis?

In addition, increased levels of the hormone estrogen as a result of pregnancy, hormone therapy, or the use of combined (estrogen-containing) forms of hormonal contraception, may increase cholesterol levels in bile and also decrease gallbladder movement, resulting in gallstone formation.

Blood tests were negative for pregnancy, so that's rather ruled out ;)

Are you having surgery/cholecystectomy? or an ERCP?

No telling before the surgeon consultation. the ER doc didn't find it necessary to suggest operation on the spot (laparoscopic or otherwise), so I am currently unaware of my options. However, he's ruled out infection due to the lack of fever and vomiting. Which is good I guess.

Egads!  Sounds like not the best way to start out the new year.  It is only going to get better now.

All the best to you.

Thanks guys.

Apparently, bitching @ the referral coordinator works. I got a surgeon's appointment for Friday. We'll see how it goes.
