Title: Question for all
Post by: Teed on January 04, 2007, 03:42:18 PM
When you guys/gals get home from work/school, do you usually grab an alcoholic drink to relax for the evening.

Not these days.  High end of normal triglycerides count in the spring has me on Friday night only now.   :sad3:

I TRY and only drink 2 nights a week. (though I usually get hammered on both)

I usually end up coming home from regular work @ 1730, and going to help my wife run our pub.

Most days, there is enough work to keep me busy, so I don't drink...others, during slow nights, I might drink 3-4 beers to keep me occupied.  Tonight, we have darts, so the drinking has begun in ernest.

BTW, for some reason, I never drink @ home.

Not usually when I get home, there's still to much to do at that point. I'm more likely to have a drink around 9pm.

I never drink when I get home. However I almost always have at least one pint later on in the evening.

...I usually end up coming home from regular work @ 1730, and going to help my wife run our pub...
You own a pub?  If you don't mind, I have a few questions for you.

Has your state/municipality passed non-smoking legislation?

If no, how do you feel about such legislation?

If yes, has it hurt your business?

I quit smoking a few years ago, but when I smoked, like most smokers, I usually indulged a little more when I was drinking.  I sympathize with pub owners because it seems smoking is part of the pub culture.  On the other hand, it sure is more pleasant to go out for a beer and not come home smelling like an ashtray.

Some studies are showing the business is starting to increase in places where smoking has been banned.

Rarely grab a drink when I get home, of course since I am home most of the time, a 6AM drink might not bode well for the rest of the day...

Friday and Saturday nights are usually my drinking nights. Often when I get home, I check to see what dinner is before deciding whether to drink or what to drink. Some things go great with beer, some things with wine, some with a martini, etc.
Some things go great with Coke or Iced tea, too.

It just passed, and will be affective 9/2007

If no, how do you feel about such legislation?
I think it sucks

If yes, has it hurt your business?
All of the research I have done, if correct, means I will be out of business before the "cycle" of smoking drinkers return.

Again, the research I have done shows that also.  But, we are a semi-new business, we inherited a *feces* load of debt when we "acquired" our place.  I put a ton of of money into the place for the "previous" owner, and I could not sustain a loss of business for any period of time right now.  And with talking to other bar owners, neither could they.

Kinda like JD, no.  I rush from my desk when my wife calls to tell me that she's heading upstairs to start the bath for our little one.  I race home, join the bath, the apres bath play and the putting-down.

Actually, I realize that I essentially don't drink at home.  My wife and I may split the occasional beer, but I'd guess I have something alcoholic at home maybe twice a month.

Yes. :sad3:

We just moved to a new house a few months ago.  In our old house, I occasionally grabbed a drink upon getting home, but not very often.  But in the new house, my commute became much longer and more stressful, and I find myself reaching for a drink as soon as I get home.

That's grim.  I need to find a new job. >:(

Not much anymore, I partied way toooo much in the early days, you name it I did it, and now with raising kids I kinda wanted to set a good example, I don't have alcohol in the house, and when I drink if at all, it's away.

But lately I've acquired this taste for really old scotch.

HEY! the kids are almost outta da house.

I don't want to set a bad example for the kids either.  So I share the beerz with them.

I need a "that went over my head" smiley.  I still don't get the chiclet and whiskey reference.  Unless chiclets=teeth?   or maybe this definition of chiclet (http://www.wordspy.com/words/chiclet.asp)? like those small, orange xml/rss buttons?

I guess it saddens me that these days it seems like the first thing I do when I walk in the door is reach for a drink instead of kissing the wife or playing with the dog.  That doesn't bode well for the future.

OMG, I'm in a forum with a bunch of non-drinkers and do-gooders!!!!!! ::) ::) ::)
Just Kidding!!! ;D ;D ;D
Sorry to go against the grain of things, but I love an icecold beer, when I get home from work, maybe even a few. (We are in the middle of summer here!!)
Usually I am a beer or red wine drinker!!!

Title: Re: Question for all
Post by: Blader on January 05, 2007, 06:38:45 AM

Usually I am a beer or red wine drinker!!!

OMG!!!  Me too!!!  What a coincidence.  We have SO much in common in addition to a distaste for the name, Russell.  I grew up thinking "I'd never name a dog Russell" or own a Jack Russell terrior, whereas I'm sure you grew up thinking, "I'd never marry a guy named Russell!"

My alcoholism doesn't have a set pattern, except to say that I am slowly becoming a beer AND wine snob.

At the New Year's Eve party, a neighbor and I have conspired to throw an elite wine party.  Each of maybe 8 invited couples would be directed to bring a 'good' bottle of wine, which will be served from numbered brown wrappers.

If it's a good meal at home, I like to open some wine.

If its a sloppy dinner out, I'll have a beer if they serve some good ones.  If its slightly better than chips and wings, I'd have some wine.

If I start at dinner, I usually can't stop the rest of the evening.  For example, I can't stand the idea of not finishing a bottle of fresh wine.   But I'm proud to say I've never, to my knowledge, stumbled into the bedroom and pleaded, "Ahhh, c'mom!!! Wake up!  You promised!!!"

If its business entertainment, or I finish a round of golf and don't have any family obligations that evening, it's Katy bar the door......

I don't mind quaffing a beer or two not long before bedtime, to dull the senses and let the mind downshift a few gears.  Thank goodness my prostate isn't enlarged and I can fully void my bladder before bedtime.

I realize this is a lot of information.  Probably more than you asked for.

OMG.  You can't see them.  Wait, now that I'm at work I can't see them either.

Last night, at home, when I pulled this thread up....Whiskey had a white box at the end of his post.  Smoothish, and rounded corners looked exactly like a Chiclet.(you had that part right).  Then I saw you put one on, and I thought wth?  did I miss a memo?  What do those mean?
I look up to the "smiley bar" and there it is, all the way to the left, right next to this dude.( :sad3:)  I was able to choose it, and it still showed up for me as a small blank white box.  I thought it was supposed to do or say something, and my pc was "dropping" it.  In the text field, it said "sad"  that why I said, "what's sad about.....

Considering, that this is taking place in this thread, I will assure, I had had only one   1/2 of a beer at the time.

when I go home tonight, if it's still that way, I'll do a screen capture.

I've concluded that becoming a beer and wine snob is the natural progression of things. Once you've gone down that road it's hard to go back. It's a lot like golf courses in that regard.

I'm sure it can be stopped, at least the wine and beer part.  I'm thinking along the lines of end-stage renal disease.

That's weird, it does look like a chiclet.  wtf?

I've never seen that before.  I've seen some images not render properly on a few browsers, but usually they sort of half-render.

Is it only that one smiley or all smileys that look like chiclets?

I think the original red sad smiley was corrupted somehow and didn't display properly on your machine.  I just swapped it with the one that showed up properly.

Do you have space outside like put a fence around it known as a beer garden and they can allow to smoke outside but not inside. We get that in Scotland but you will need planning permisson for that and I don`t know about their rules there.

Depends on the night.  If it's a school night and I get home early (11pm) then I'll have a beer or too.  If its a school night and I get home late from studying (3am) then no.

If I was already out drinking that night, then maybe.  If I come home completely *feces*faced, then I just hope to make it upstairs to my bed.  If I wasn't already drinking that night, then yes.
