I would contribute but I am afraid I would offend some people.

On a different note that is one cool factory.

It is a cool factory.

I'm curious just how, specifically, the UAW is 'Preventing' Ford from building one in the US.

apparently you don't realize that the uaw runs ford motor company. and yes ford let it happen and now has no way out.

Reasonably certain that the UAW is only running FoMoCo when they don't make a profit. In the quarters where they do, it's effective executive leadership.

I don't think anybody with an ounce of sense disputes that Ford and GM continue to suffer tremendously from decades of executive ineptness.

thats the problem. when times were good ford gave the uaw anything they wanted to keep the plants running. unfortunately one of the things they gave them is the power to govern all us hourly workers. fords only way out would be to create a new company such as saturn.

OK not to start any fights but has the UAW out lived it's usefulness? I understand why unions were started but I am not seeing where that model fits in today's business. (and just to be clear I am speaking of unions in general not just the UAW).

At my work they tried to start a union and it got shot down by the population by a margin of something like 1500 to 2.

Depends on how you view the fluff piece above, one supposes.

Watch it again. Workers in the new Utopia will be 18 to 35, dress the same and only talk about policy and procedures when being fed their company supplied sustenance.

After 35, it's off to the slums with you, and if you're not cutting the arbitrarily decided by management mustard, off to the same slums. They even open with a picture of them so that we all understand the stakes.

*fudge* it, I'm going skating. Everything on my sticks was made here.
