Title: Comparison (Dinner out)
Post by: stroh on March 16, 2007, 07:40:11 PM
We went out tonight.

Savannah is home from collidge.  Went to a place called Bostons.  Nice place, been there many times.  Pizza, pasta, sports bar.  Was able to watch the games, and keep up with my bracket, although the place was a buzz (overly) with the U of M hockey contest.  Hockey phtthhh.  Whatever.

So, here's the deal.

Mike, Karen, Savannah, and Madolyn.

Drinks:
Mike: Beer, large, Mich. Golden Light draft ....5
Karen Beer, large, Mich. Golden light draft......4
Savannah Beer Corona, bottle, 1 Surly(local)pint [sm_disgust] ......1
Madolyn Root beer  1 refill.

Appetizers.  Cactus Chips (thin sliced, spicey potatoes w/ dip) small order of french fries.

At this point, Savannah says she's not very hungry.  To be honest, neither am I.

Dinner.
Mike  Chicken fingers.
Karen  Personal pizza pepperoni and green pepper.
Savannah  nyet
Madolyn  Fettuccine  with Alfredo sauce.

We took home half of Maddie's pasta, and half of Karen's pizza.

Bill  79.59  (past happy hour)

20 dollar tip, and rounded to 100 dollar bill.

I thought it was a pretty good outing for a hundo.  How does it compare with you guys?  More, Less?  Oh, and the big beers.........are big beers.

I wonder if that's the same place that's going up here.  Boston's Gourmet Pizza or such?

$100 for four is pretty high to me but we don't drink as much.  Max of four glasses of beer/wine for the two of us (usually less and often none) and the kids of course don't drink.  Plus we don't have appetizers usually.  But still, if I'm dropping a c-note I'm not having chicken fingers or pizza.

Then just go away.  You're serving no purpose here.

;)  I think it is a national chain.  It is a decent place.  They do a great job.  The food/presentation is better than any around.  If a guy was out for a decent pasta/gourmet pizza dinner.......highly recommended.

Tonight we paid $34 w/ tip for our dinner. That's about average for the two of us. If we really splurge we'll spend $50-$60. We've been known to drop $70-$80 for sushi, but that's rare.

$80 for all that is a pretty good deal unless it sucks or is small portions.

No.  The portions are quite generous.  We always take some home.
The quality/taste is better than anywhere we've been.

Mind you, we're not Ruth's Chris folk, but head and shoulders above say, Applebees. (no offense APTech. ;D  Their Brewtus kicks ass!)

we usually eat at a local joint called finos. greek is the overall theme but the menu is wide reaching. fresh bread and big salads with everything. the entree portions are enormous!!
the wife gets mosticolli
the son gets chicken fettuccine alfredo
the princess either spaghetti or chicken strips and fries
i usually get the fisherman's platter  with 2 huge slabs of cod 2 jumbo shrimp 2 lake perch and choice of potato.

rarely can anyone finish there is so much food.
we don't drink so the tab usually comes to 40.00 plus tip

Am I correctly reading a total of ten beers, one soda, one appetizer, a little pizza and some chicken fingers?

Back when my wife and I had lives, we'd go to the local pub (http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=47) for a pint each of house-brewed, a burger for me and some grilled veggie sandwich crap for her, and come away for <$25 including 20% tip.  $30 if I had a second pint.

Let's see, we can usually go out to eat (all 7 of us), for about $70 including dessert for those who want it and a 15-20% tip.  Also includes fruit for the kids and as many baskets of bread as you want with your meal.  Of course, that doesn't include beer or other such alcoholic drinks.  So you tell me how well it compares.  Serving sizes are always extra generous. (Well, at the time we usually go they are, don't catch them when they're busy, though.  Then the servings are only "normal".)

That's not too bad.  A comparable meal and drinks at our place would have run you $61.10 before tip.

Campy's place is the only place in Evanston I'll ever again have beers and dinner.  8)

This might be thread-jacking.....

But tipping isn't a big thing here in Australia.....it is not expected.

Hospitality worker's, love American's as they always tip!!!

I'm not even going to open that can of worms here, but let's just say there are a few Americans who obviously have  adopted the down under philosophy of tipping.

Wish, I have to assume that wait staff is adequately compensated in Australia?

IIRC tipping isn't a big thing in Europe either.

It's the minimum "legislated" wage that must be paid... all things being equal.

For hospitality workers it's between $16 and $20 per hour

STFU!!  Stick to being a lawyer and not an accountant Jackass.

Why don't you go away and don't come back here no more.

Well, actually I told him to go away and not come back two years after he went away and hasn't come back.  I did that because it's funny in the way Clive thinks things are funny and I was hoping that he didn't really go away and not come back but read that and come back by not going away.  Perhaps if I told him to go away and not come back before he went away and hasn't come back he may have never left and not come back.  Who knows, if he does come back and read this he may leave again and then really never come back.  Either way I stand by my post.

I think we should go with Baby Come Back.

It's worth a shot.

I've spoken, (yes really heard his voice) with Clive a couple of times since he left.   Stroh ain't got nothin to do with the why's and wherefore's.  (Clive is an *bunghole* attorney after all)

I'd like to see him post something,  somewhere, sometime.  I miss the posts about his cross country testicular examinations.

And yes, The Bold and the Beautiful, was his favourite daytime show.

I guess I'm just strange that way.
