Nobody will ever forget that day.

a survey last year (near 911 anniv.) revealed more than 30% (i'll try to find the exact stat) of 'merkans  couldn't even say what year it happened.

I thought we already established that approximately 1/3 of 'merkans are in fact complete morans iehttp://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/02/27/opinion/polls/main1350874.shtml

According to Ms. Teen South Carolina that's because many U.S. Americans in this nation of ours, such as, don't have calendars.

I remember.
There are three things in my life that have left indelible impressions on me, where I can tell you where I was, what I was doing, and how I heard the news: The Challenger explosion; my grandfather's death; and 9/11. I doubt any one of those memories will ever fade.

Me too.  'Cept it was my grandfather not yours.  I'd also add the Reagan and Lennon shootings.  You might be a tad young for those I guess.

I don't recall your grandfather's death. I have very, very vague memories of Lennon being killed, but I wasn't quite 7 years old at the time so I don't remember details so much as I am able to recount them from the numerous reports I have read subsequently. I have little to no recollection of the Reagan assassination attempt beyond having a general childhood awareness of the name John Hinkley Jr. Surprising, given my parents being liberals and all. Though at the time I think they were big Reagan boosters. You'd think I'd remember it.

[edit] Oops forgot one: "The disarmament of Iraq has begun." I almost dropped a barbell on my face. Seriously.

Agreed although mine was my grandmother's death.  I'll add the OKC bombing to that list as well.  Our school building shook about 10 miles away.  And I was home sick the day the challenger exploded from 1st grade.

Identical to my list.

I remember Challenger very well.

I was in the motor pool at Ft. Bragg hatin' on America when it happened.

I ended up with it on tape, as they had preempted All My Children to cover it....

We all remember a lot of things. We all forget others.

I remember the day the USSR fell. I don't know how that event affected anyone else but it was a very scary and intense 3 days for me. I remember where I was and what I was doing. Tensions were very high and we were all on alert. Being in the "enemy's" bathtub at that particular time was not the best place in the world to be.

Yesterday came and passed and for me it was just another day. In a way I am thankful for that. I am not scared, I am not sad, I am not mourning any great losses.

But I do remember and I will not forget.

I remember.
There are three things in my life that have left indelible impressions on me, where I can tell you where I was, what I was doing, and how I heard the news: The Challenger explosion; my grandfather's death; and 9/11. I doubt any one of those memories will ever fade.
Identical to my list.

Challenger - I had just gotten my lunch in the cafeteria at IBM, Endicott NY and it was on television. I was 21 and doing an internship for school.

Grandfather - At the same time I was in Endicott he was put in a hospital due to cancer. I drove home from NY and he died the day I left. I remember getting out of my care and seeing my parents faces and knowing instantly.

9/11 - I remember the Today show breaking in with the news a plane had hit one of the towers. I watched for a bit but had to leave for work. I remember myself saying out loud. "what the f*&^ is going on" when the news came on the radio that the second tower had been hit.

Three times in my life that I can remember in vivid detail.  :sad3:

{edit} I need to add two as well. Quite possibly the happiest events, my daughters.  :)
