Title: Who's Playing/Played This Weekend?
Post by: stroh on June 16, 2007, 12:46:57 PM
I'm on a full 2 week(and counting) situational layoff.  :sad3: [sm_cussing]  Work, kid, obligations, yadda, yadda, yadda.......

No plans to play today, and headed out this afternoon to Karen's brother's place for a shin dig.  Kid just got back from over seas missionary trip.  Tomorrow, another beer-b-que, with the out-laws for Father's Day.

My best chance is if we get home early enough in the evening to head out.  :sad3:  :crying:  We'll see.

Last time I played, I went out with the neighbor.  Started bogie, bogie.  Even par through 5 holes.  Then the sky opened up, and got a down pour.  Triple, Double coming in, like drowned rats.  Threw the clubs in the car after 9 holes, and ain't been back.

Hopefully you guys got out.

[Save on bandwidth:]  Happy Father's Day to all.

I haven't played in nearly 3 weeks. I spent the morning assembling a set of irons for one of my friends and started to get the urge to swing some clubs, so I drove up to Eaglewood to hit a bucket of balls. When I got there, cars were parked 10+ deep on either side of the road leading into the jam packed parking lot, so I kept on driving. Hoping to get out for 9 with the boss on Monday afternoon.  [sm_fingersx]

Might maybe play nine tomorrow with some patent law cronies.  Oh, the hilarity at those outings!

Not me.  Gonna try to make it to the range, though.

Got a call to join a group at 6:39am this morning. Was home by 10:45. Nice.

Playing tomorrow in my yearly Father's day round with a friend.

Played in a scramble with a nice retired couple who used to frequent the pub...we started drinking @ 0730, and shot a 69,  60 won it.  Ended up winning some very nice door prizes, so all was not lost on the $65 PP entry fee.

Well, I played yesterday, and it was just plain hard work.  I didn't play that well, luckily for me neither did the other c grade ladies. (Yes it is club championship time! :D)

I had a better day today, and I won the c grade gross & net. It was not a good score, but yet again, everybody else was having a lousey day as well.

Got to play Saturday with the Mrs and her father.  We were lucky it didn't rain on us.  I played well on the front and like poo on the back.  Carded a nifty 9 on a par 4 (two balls in the water) but still enjoyed the day very much.

Played Sunday afternoon.  Birdie-par-quad-triple-bogey-birdie-birdie-quint-double.  That's TWELVE-OVER with THREE BIRDIES in nine holes.

I hate that course.  Or my golf game.  Or both.

The good news is that you bogeyed only one hole.

If we're silver-lining it:

I played the same ball for the whole nine.  As I did last nine-hole outing, too.  That would mark the first time EVAR that I played 18 holes with a single ball.

How did you manage a quintuple bogey without losing a ball?

If I know Clive it involved a testicle examination and at least one undue delay penalty.

Might have been different this time though.

How did you manage a quintuple bogey without losing a ball?
Par-5, 508 yards, dogleg right and uphill.  Terrain slopes aggressively from right to left for most of fairway.  Among other golf faults, I cannot hit a fade.

1. 4-iron off tee for safety -- toed, goes down right side.  Blocked by trees from any decent advancing shot.  Ball on wicked upslope and bare dirt lie.
2. PW up right side, poor distance because of upslope.  Still have some dogleg to negotiate.
3. 6-iron intended to go up right side, draw back into fairway and hopefully not cross it (trees and ravine far left).  Hits one of two medium-sized tree branches quite high up, kicks right-er into trees.
4. Punch slightly backward into fairway.  Still ~240 yards out.
5. 8-iron up fairway, laying up to SW distance.  Shot draws strongly, finishes just in left rough.
6. Lie has ball above feet and on upslope.  Previous confrontations of like nature resulted in left weight on back leg, pulled shots.  Aim right, play for pull and draw.  Neither arrives.  Miss green right = short-sided.
7. Chipping bites.  Take sweet, sweet Mentorsports putter instead -- club cannot fail to produce good shot.  Golfer can, though; I misjudge grassy collar, hammer ball through it, down and across green, and maybe four feet off other side.  20 feet remain.
8. Snake-bitten by the previous, I putt back weakly and leave a 6-foot slider.
9. Miss.
10. Make.

I'm printing that off and having it laminated so I can always carry with me the knowledge that I'm not the only one. (Though I can hit a fade, and frequently do. Usually when I'm trying to draw it.)

That is awesome Clive.  To follow your lead, I'll give the play by play of my 9 on a par 4.

400 yard par 4 dead straight with water all down the right side and also halfway in front of the green.

1.  Pull out driver that I've been hitting well and aim left center of fairway to be safe.  So I completely come out of it and hit a block/fade down the right side that goes into the water about 200 yards out.
2.  Drop
3.  200 yards to the pin in the rough so I take out my go-to club (Elevon hybrid) and try to play it up the left side.  Swing hard but release early and hit the ground at least 6" behind the ball only to see the ball go about 50 yards into the water again.
4.  Drop
5.  155 yards to the pin in rough again but nice lie on top.  Take an 8 iron and proceed to kill it with a hard fade and airmail the green to the back right.  I guess it was a flier (whatever that means)because 155 yards is my max 8 iron and this ended up 10 yards over the green.
6.  Ball lies one foot from the edge of the water with virtually no stance.  My feet were right next to the ball and I pitch up getting good contact but much to hard and it ends up on the fringe at the front of the green.
7.  40 something foot putt that I didn't focus on much after my wife was waiting on me to putt her 10 ft. birdie putt. :sad3:  Leave myself 6 feet.
8.  Miss it on the low side like I did all day
9.  Tap in while my wife carded an easy 4.

All in all it was a good day though.  Shot 92 with a 9, 2 doubles and a triple.

Rags to riches:

Hole 1: par-4, dogleg left, 359 yards.  4-iron down left side with slight draw, comes to rest just in wispy left rough.  SW hole-high and 15 feet left.  Center-cut.

Hole 6: par-3, 179 yards, sharply uphill with bunker below hole.  Toe 6-iron, hits on fringe and falls down hill halfway.  Pitch/chip up, ball lands, bounces, rolls into hole.

Hole 7: par-4, 313 yards, hard right bend at ~200 yards.  4-iron off tee for safety, pull-hooked.  Ball hits trees, caroms out and stops inches from RIGHT side of fairway.  SW to about 8 feet.  Two guys stick approaches inside mine, last guy is just outside me.  Read about a hole's break right, then get teach from guy coming from other side of hole whose putt barely breaks at all.  Revise line.  Drain-o!

Some good solid scoring.

Well done guys.

Gratz on breaking 120.
