Palin confirms daughter's pregnancy

By Steve Holland
Monday, 1 September 2008

The Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has announced that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Bristol Palin, one of Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Abstinence FTL...

I wonder if Palin told McCain about her daughter's delicate condition in the one phone conversation that they had before McCain selected her for Veep nominee.

It sounds like they didn't do much vetting at all.

This could be bad for Obama after the 'Sentencing my daughters to a baby' comment.

When did he say this? I'm sure it was in reference to Palin's stance that abortion should be illegal even in the case of incest or rape.

Oh, hell. Who in their right mind wouldn't consider having a baby a burden for a teenaged girl still going to school? I'm sure that statistics will show that having a baby and having to raise it at such a young age is tantamount to a social, educational, professional, and financial death sentence.

As it turns out, McCain did do some vetting of Palin.

What's funny is that this announcement of Bristol's current pregnancy hasn't done anything to dispel the rumors on the blog sites that Bristol gave birth to Trig as well. Bristol is apparently 5 months pregnant and Trig was born 5 months ago. They probably should have announced that she's 6 months pregnant.  ;D

Another blogger has calculated that Track, Palin's oldest son, was conceived out of wedlock (http://www.americablog.com/2008/08/sarah-palin-and-children-conceived-out.html).

I wouldn't be surprised if Palin withdraws her nomination. If McCain doesn't win this election with her still on the ticket, I doubt she even gets re-elected governor.

Remember that post I made where I said that I met quite a few fundamentalist Christians like her when I was living in Alaska?

Does it go without saying that I don't really think they should be in charge of anything more meaningful than their own church bazaar's, although Wasilla, Alaska could qualify....

This woman is a disaster, but I love how wingnuts like Hannity and Rove keep touting her "executive experience"--even her experience as mayor of Wasilla. News stories (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/eric-schmeltzer/palin-almost-recalled-as_b_122769.html) are already coming out about how she was almost recalled by the Wasilla voters for her firing two city employees for "not fully supporting her". On top of that, it turns out that mayoral position (http://www.codepublishing.com/AK/Wasilla/Wasilla02/Wasilla0216.html#2.16) in this city is largely administrative and ceremonial.

Quote
2.16.020 Power and duties of mayor.
A.    The mayor is the chief administrator of the city, has the same powers and duties as those of a manager under AS 29.20.005, and shall:

1.    Preside at council meetings. The mayor may take part in the discussion of matters before the council, but may not vote, except that the mayor may vote in the case of a tie;

2.    Act as ceremonial head of the city;

3.    Sign documents on behalf of the city;

4.    Appoint, suspend or remove city employees and administrative officials, except as provided otherwise in AS Title 29 and the Wasilla Municipal Code;

5.    Supervise the enforcement of city law and carry out the directives of the city council;

6.    Prepare and submit an annual budget and capital improvement program for consideration by the council, and execute the budget and capital program as adopted;

7.    Make monthly financial reports and other reports on city finances and operations as required by the council;

8.    Exercise legal custody over all real and personal property of the city;

9.    Perform other duties required by law or by the council; and

10.    Serve as personnel officer, unless the council authorizes the mayor to appoint a personnel officer.

As you can see, this position is "executive" in the truest sense because all the real decisions are made by the city council. The mayor simply "executes" the decisions somebody else makes.

The reason they released the story is to head off that rumor, which was actually starting to get legs over the weekend.

If Bristol is 5 months pregnant, then she can't be Trig's mother.

The reality looks more like this, and it's not much better:

Still, Mr. Bounds hasn't really reached the level of Mark Sanford has he now?

Too late to withdraw her, seriously. It'll kill him with the fundies, and he doesn't need that with Obama showing a 3 to 8 point lead depending on whose poll your checking, including a Gallup that shows Obama over 50 pct.

AP is reporting that Miss Bristol's beau is being flown in from The Great White North  so that they can all be one big happy family on stage tomorrow night.

That's one lucky dude right there: He knocks up the gubinatah's daughter which should have left him toiling in a salt mine somewhere up around Circle.

All of a sudden she's the veep's daughter, and the Enquirer is knocking and hush money is rolling  in.

What are the odds he's got a new F350 with all the goodies and a McCain bumper sticker on it as we speak?
