Title: Kick it up a notch
Post by: Uisce Beatha on August 24, 2007, 07:07:20 PM
Alright, wife and kids are at a football game.  I'm monitoring servers for God knows what but I feel compelled.  In between, I'm GolfHo'ing.  I'm stuck right here for a while so let's try to get something going.

Best song under three minutes in length.

Predictably, two of my front runners are from Floyd - Southampton Dock and Pigs on the Wing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ats36lHl6I).  Roger performing his magic.   [sm_bow]

By the way, I really thought When the Tigers Broke Free would qualify but it's 3:42.   :'(

I have such narrow horizons.   :(

Just about anything from the first 3 Ramones albums is on the list.

But even they can't top this:

Hmm, tough one.

These two are the first ones I could come up with.

Led Zeppelin - Tangerine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oVJ6kK4Edk)

It's 3:10, but only if you include the 14 second false start.

Of course, there's also this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mh8-ks6FpeE) from the same album.

Minor threadjack...

After seeing MFAWG's post, I had to search for the Do You Remember Rock and Roll Radio? music video from MTV back when they actually used to play music. It turns out to be 3:45 long, but it kicks too much ass to not link it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj9VGPhyHfM). BTW, I also found a cover version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFuadFwesGQ) that spacey will surely enjoy.

You're right, of course, but I can't help but think of...

"And five, now this is the most important, Rat. When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV."

Cue Kashmir.   [sm_banghead] [sm_angry8] [sm_cussing] [sm_pain] [sm_banghead]

Oddly enough, I have never heard this. I haven't even heard of it until now.

I'd never seen or heard it either, but that was awesome. I think it was done as part of a tribute album. They're both 70's era New York bands that made a conscious decision to follow a very, very specific formula in terms of music and stagecraft early in their careers, and pretty much stuck to it for 30 years or so.

I just watched it again, it's even more beautiful than I imagined: They actually 'False Start' with Blitzkrieg Bop...

Okay, I've been thinking, and I pretty certain I've come up with a song that you've heard of.

Amazing Grace.  Played on bagpipes.  Most renditions under 3 minutes.  Would qualify as one of my top picks.

Great song when done right.  Bagpipes are very nice.

I had a friend die in a car accident a few years back.  He wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from his truck.  The truck rolled over on him.  Everyone else survived without a scratch.

A few years later his brother (also a very good friend) committed suicide.  He had some substance abuse problems but the kicker was that he missed his brother terribly.

At the second funeral a girl sang Amazing Grace in one of the most powerful renditions I've ever heard.  There wasn't a dry eye in the place.  I know it's standard fare at funerals but that song still makes me think of those two and I'm sure it always will.

How tragic to lose two friends in such a way. :sad3:

Know what you mean.  I'll always think of a very dear lady who was like a grandmother to me when I hear He the Pearly Gates Will Open and When the Roll is Called Up Yonder, just as Just a Closer Walk With Thee and More Love to Thee will always remind me of my grandfather.
