As you are all aware, I have a great degree of political ignorance, and as a rule, abstain from opportunities to demonstrate it.   It's just how I roll.

But I have a question.

A.  Does Clinton really have a chance at getting the nod?

B. And what if she does?  Does she really stand a chance of getting elected?

What I mean is,  at some point in November, will mass America stop and say 'Man, do I really want to put a woman in The White House?'

Is America, even in '08, ready to pull that trigger?  Even with all of the Left, the Dem.s, and a great number of centrists, and Libertarians that are demanding a change in direction for this country.......Even if she is the most talented, and best prepared candidate to take this country where it needs to go(I realize this will be debated ad infinitum)  will everyone overlook the message, because they can't get past the messenger?

I have always been one to believe the message is more important than the paper it's written on, but I believe that even with all the people clamoring for change, when it's time to put their quarter in the slot, Joe Bag O'Donuts will balk.

I realize it's a whole other can o' worms, but I guess the same could be said for Obama.

It concerns me.

I am less inclined to this then even you. I would have to submit though that I don't think it will happen. The only way I see it happening is if the general public actually decides to go out and vote. There might be a real chance then.

I'm sure some dolts will wonder if we'll be going to war every 28 days or so and not realizing that she's already 60 years old.

Yes. She's got the money, and while labor won't endorse her, they won't endorse anyone else either. She scores very high with everybody but the lunatic fringe left, and even some of those will come back to the fold after it becomes clear that Obama has no shot.



Yup. The fix is in. Defense industry types and other typically Republican Wall Street types are already contributing heavily to her campaign.

Hillary is certainly a polarizing figure.  I think she will win the democratic nod and has a good chance at president.  Mostly because of how terrible the Bush Administration has been compared to her hubby.  I think a lot of people that may not be so excited about her being president will believe the Clintons are a much better alternative than what the pubs offer.  The candidates on the repub side are so terrible as well, she can easily be seen as a lesser of two evils.  Kind of like the choice we always have between a giant douche and a turd sandwich.  

It sure seems like the other candidates have lost ground to Clinton in the last few months. Barring any leaks of stories about secret lesbian love affairs, she's probably going to win the nod.

Is the country ready to elect a woman for president? I think so. Are they ready to elect Hillary Clinton? Hard to say.

It's very early in the process to attempt to declare the current front runner to be the obvious choice for the party nomination. Let's not forget the rise and fall of Howard Dean. At this point all she represents is the candidate who has been able to raise the most money. Credit her business partner/ :airquotes: husband :airquotes: for that.

Once she starts winning primaries, we can probably start rating her actual chances. At this point, however, I wouldn't be too quick to write off some of the other candidates. If Obama or Edwards can manage to win one of the early primaries, it could turn into a very different race. As for her potential to win the election outright, I'd say, given the current crop of Republican candidates, the party nomination is the real hurdle. Short of Nancy Pelosi (or some other seriously crazy liberal) coming out of nowhere to gain the Democratic nomination and/or the Republicans exhuming Ronald Reagan and running him again (would it really be that different than when he was alive?) I think it's relatively safe to say that any given Democratic candidate is likely to defeat his/her Republican counterpart. The Republican is still guaranteed to carry Utah though, so they've got that going for them, which is nice.

Given the baggage that she carries with her, combined with the fact that 50% (or possibly more) of the country already loathes her, I'm not convinced that Hillary is any better a choice to hold the office than The Decider. I'd really prefer to see a less divisive candidate come out of the Left, but I can't honestly imagine who that might be.

In my estimation, going to the polls to choose between Hillary Clinton or, say, Rudy Giuliani is tantamount to choosing between Christian Rock and Nickelback.

i think the only way for her NOT to get elected would be to either kill herself or swear to keep the war going.

My roundabout answer was in response to the way you asked "True?" after "I know less than Stroh about politics." IOW, it looks like you're asking if it's true that you know less than Stroh about politics. My real answer to that question is "I don't know."  ;D

She won't swear to end it, although she has sworn to pay for it.

If I had to wager my own money I'd put it on Hillary. She not only has a chance, she's the frontrunner.

Not really. As somebody pointed out, Americans are loathe to change horses in midstream.

Even at that it came down to 150k vots in Ohio with arguably the worst Dem candidate since Dukakis on the ticket.

The down side (or upside) is that The Shrub managed to destroy Jeb's career and hand the White House and Congress to the Democrats for the next 10 years, although he admittedly had some help from the likes of Tom Foley and Jack Abramoff's crew.
