Title: For whom were you named?
Post by: Uisce Beatha on August 31, 2007, 02:45:39 PM
Walfredo and E-A-G-L-E started it rolling so why not its own thread?

My mum's a R.N.  She fell in love with this little boy in the hospital with damn near every bone in his body broken.  She actually still has a picture of him months into recovery and still on braces - both arms and both legs.  His name is Jonathan and there you have it.  Have no idea about my middle name actually.  I'll have to ask.

So that's me.  Kinda boring.

I named my boy after Conor Larkin - the reluctant hero of Leon Uris's Trinity.

I named my girl after the 27 other girls on our block who are named Caitlín.  So it seems anyway.  She has that fada on her birth cert so at least it's a bit different.

My name is kind of boring, Mum just liked it, apparently Mum really wanted to called me Michelle, but if they had a boy they wanted to call him Michael, and Dad said you can't have a Michelle and Michael in the family, as it sounds silly!!!(I don't know why!)
My Dad's name is George and my Mum's name is Catherine, so I actually named my daughter Georgia Catherine, after my Mum and Dad! :D

No one.

Gregg with two g's at the end cuz' Ma didn't want no Gregory. My wife is Wendy after Wendy in Peter Pan.

Mom always wanted a Randall, until she married a guy named Vandel  :-X, I was almost a Julian too, which was a (kinda) combo of Julius and William (my grandfathers).

Our oldest daughter was named for a popular song at the time, Amanda by Don Williams, I was working as a DJ in a country music radio station when she was born and I loved that song, still do.

Youngest daughter is Cassandra, I wanted Cassiopeia after the star constellation but was vetoed, we liked the way the two names sounded together.

There you go, now you have enough info on me to do some damage.  ;D

Me- First - a saint who has some controversy, Middle - from Grandfather's middle name.

First son - Alexander the Great, also liked the name
Second son - Zackary, no one in particular just liked the name (and yes it is spelled that way)
Third - Samuel - my middle name

There you have it then. Oh and our last is because someone at Ellis Island couldn't understand my Great-Grandfather and just gave him one of the standards.

I am a 3rd, so take a wild guess.

My first son was named after one of my wife's brothers and my brother.  One SIL got all up in our faces for slighting that brother, and my brother got all up in my face for mis-spelling his contribution (Brien instead of Brian-big f'ing deal).

The second son just got two names that sound good together, and turned out to be a harbinger of his personality (Justin Wade=the just wanderer).

You mean you're not named after the person who made this famous quote?

Russell's name has a good story.
His real name is Barrie Russell.
His Dad was a royal marine in the british army and was fighting in Borneo at the time of his birth.  His Mum was was living (stationed) in Singapore.  His Mum had not heard from his Dad in a long time, (no such things as phones etc then and there) and thought that his Dad was dead, so Russell was named Barrie after his Dad, but low and behold, his Dad finally came home from the war, and little Barrie, suddenly became little Russell!!! ;D

Me:  David named after ?? I guess it's biblical and all that but no real story around it. My Mom wanted to name me Mark but there was a joke going around about a hair-lipped dog. True story.  My middle name is my Dad's first name.

Named our oldest daughter after my Grandmother, Zoe. Our youngest brought a holy crap moment. We picked Grace for a name after we had Zoe and when Grace was born (before we even knew her) the nurses in the orphanage gave her a Korean name that means "grace". It was a goose bump moment. Her middle name(s) are my wife's maiden name and her Korean family name.

First name: Mom liked it and apparently it was en vogue to name your son Matthew/Matt between 1972-1978. Kind of like Caitlin, Katelyn, Kaitlin, Caytlyn, KayttLINn, |{417£¥n, etc is popular today.

Middle Name: Named after my grandfather. Good man.

I was Michelle until the moment my genitals hit the bright lights.  A scramble I suppose.  I hear there was quite a spat, as my aunt about to deliver wanted the name Michelle for her spawn.  Well, she got it.

My cousin is Michelle, and I am now Michael.   [sm_thankyou]

No skin off my...........nose, any way.

As was popular at the time      (or not) they chose my middle name to reflect the most popular, handsome, suave, rich, .well you get the idea..  Having no real ethnicity....they strung together Michael Sean.

Well, I was gonna be a Mirandee 'cause my mom and dad liked the name.  (My nickname would have been Randee.)  But then I arrived and my mom said, "She doesn't look like a Mirandee".  Yeah, so they talked a bit, and Mom asked Dad if he recalled talking about the name Natilee and if he liked it.  It also means "Christmas child"/"Born at Christmas" which is in keeping with the time I was born.

I also had a great-great-aunt Natalie.  I'm not sure if that was a before or afterthought, though.

Oh, yeah.  My mom and dad picked out the name Garrett when they were expecting Chelsea.  Garrett for my great-grandfather.  My grandpa didn't want to have anyone named after him (not 'cause he didn't like the honor, but because I don't think he liked his name all that well).  Anyway, they were having a hard time choosing a girl name.  Then when my mom and I were at my best friend's spring performance, we ran into (not literally) the man who was her youth pastor.  Well, that brought back a lot of fond memories, even of how my mom's senior class gave up their class trip to give the money to them for his wife's medical treatment.  Her name was Chelsea.  Well, Mom went home and asked Dad what he thought of the name.  And well, Chelsea is Chelsea 'cause she wasn't a boy.  Her middle name is the middle name of my maternal grandmother.

And Garrett, you've already heard most of his story.  His middle name is after the first name of the previous pastor of our church, he was like a father to my mom.  His middle name is also the maiden name of my paternal grandma.

And I won't post Kev's story 'cause he might want to. :D

My first name is from my paternal grandfather.  I think my middle name comes from a maternal great-grandfather.

Jeffrey because those hillbillies from KY couldn't spell Geoffrey in the proper English way. (Verily, verily, I say unto thee....)

Herald after me da, Uncle, and Grandfar.

I would have prefered Con Fergus after me other Grandfar.
