Now that it looks like the Dem will probably have to face Grumps McJowls in the general, rather than that pitbull of a campaigner and partially lethal marksman, Testy Tom Tancredo, I'm going for the not actually a real Negro guy.

But if I was Hussein, I wouldn't turn my back on Rep. Tom.

I'm tired of politics as usual.  While I can't guarantee Obama will be any better, I'm sure Hillary will be divisive, just because of who she is.  The right still can't get over Bill.

In no way impugning her ability to adequately occupy the role, the last thing the U.S. needs is another president 50%* of the country already hates.

Not sure if Billary is even a lib so I'm for Obama.  But I also like Edwards if he had a chance.

Billary is leading in Oklahoma with Edwards second and Obama third.  Problem is I know many young voters either Repub or Indies that will vote Obama if he gets the party's nod.  However, they can't vote in the Democrat primary.  With that said, I'm not voting for a reshrublican no matter what so Billary will undoubtedly be the lesser of two evils if she wins.

Uh, then yes - vote for Hillary.  Both her and Bill's economic 'plans' are more right than left.  And much of Bill's term was dominated by a republican congress.

But if you think the election of a particular president will 'return us to those times' - I suggest you keep drinking on a regular basis  ;)

I think most people understand that Hillary is not really electable - too devisive, perhaps unfairly so - but thats life.

So that leaves you with Obama - who is inexperienced and lacking any detail in his policies.  He really needs to get on the stick if he wants the corporate money for his run.  I've heard his economic plans are not good but am unable to verify this, as when I read what he has on his site its laughably lacking in reality and is simply an attempt to buy votes (mixed in with some good sound bites - and I mean that, no sarcasm intended).  He has a few supposedly respectable people on his economic policy front, so you better hope they provide more punch than what he has now.

I just feel that Obama is too much enigma right now - he'll need to show some reality if he wants to win the big one.

No, not really.  But the supposition that Bill was responsible for the economy is equally silly.

Will she be any more divisive that the jackass currently in office? I doubt it. This issue of divisiveness and electability is a joke. Any divisiveness that we see is a reflection of the ideological divide between the people in this country that's growing wider every day. It's not going to matter who's in office. Any Dem will be hated by the right, any Repug will be hated by the left, and any centrist will be hated by the extreme left and right.

(For the record, I selected Obama in this poll.)

That would be correct if Hillary was disliked for the same reasons a typical Dem would be disliked.  My thoughts here are that she is disliked for more than just being a Dem - something that may cross political boundaries.  Afterall, her politics are hardly extreme, but she is villified moreso than Dems who are extreme.

Consider this unfortunate reality...

[pc hat off]

I thought that there was no way a Republican could win this fall.  But how much of a chance was the Republican party just granted by narrowing down the competition to:

Obama, who is mostly-a-black man

Clinton, who is mostly-a-woman

We all know that there are too many people ('too many' meaning more than one - and 'people' meaning bigots) who will find it hard to vote for either one.  And the right will not even have to talk about it at all (or at least better not) - the press will make sure people are thinking about it everyday.

[pc hat on]

I honestly don't know.  I think the hatred of her is unjustified, but that doesn't make it go away.

EDIT:

OK, I'll take a crack at it after reading some comments on another, non-golf, forum.

The right hates her because she a Dem, got into office on her husband's (another hated Dem) coatails, and wrote a book called 'It Takes A Village' - offending their 'family values' sect.

Certain portions of the left hate her because they don't think she's a Dem and she got into office on her husbands coatails.

It's interesting that coattails can now be a detriment to one's candidacy. In the past, if it weren't for coattails, there's no way a 1.5-term governor of Texas with poor speaking abilities, no foreign policy experience, a history of business failures, past substance abuse problems, and shady military history gets elected President.

Voted for Obama in this poll, and would vote for Obama. If it came down to voting for Prez, I am just un pc enough to say I'm not ready to vote for a woman for President most especially THIS woman, unless she took Obama as her running mate, maybe just maybe I might swing.

The far right hates him and Limbaugh is almost apoplectic. He's a repub so the far left doesn't really like or trust him (at least publicly).

Sounds like he might be right where a lot of 'merkans reside politically. Or at least close enough on a number of issues to be tolerable.  [sm_dontknow]

It is a little surprising to me how many of my democratic friends are hoping the Clinton express gets derailed. They believe she is just too divisive to win. And not because she's a women but because she's got that big 'ol Bill standing right next to her. Plus they are put off by her sometimes projecting the whole, "hey, it's my turn! why aren't you giving this to me" attitude. And I personally believe McCain will get most of the 'independents' in a head to head battle with her.

Interesting, though not awe inspiring, stuff.

He could be using these talking points just to appease the neocons, but it seems Hillary could be doing something similar--trying to sound hawkish in order to show that a woman can be CINC of the U.S. armed forces.

Dark horse: Gov. Tim Pawlenty of MN. He's a friend and has been flying around the country campaigning for him. Rumor around here is that he may be on the short list. But personally I have my doubts about it.

If this were to happen, it would likely break Minnesota's streak in presidential elections.

Let's see: '76, '80, '84, '88, '92, '96, '00, and '04

That's 8 straight elections in which a Democrat carried MN.

I don't honestly see any huge differences between Hillary and McCain. 6 of one half a dozen of the other, as the saying goes. That's probably okay, as what the country really needs is a moderate/centrist, since that's where the majority of Americans reside. The big issue, then, is the fact that Hillary carries the baggage of built-in hatred of so many Americans. Perhaps McCain is the right choice between the two as he is the less divisive of the two, though he lost a lot of credibility in my mind when he sold out to the evil empire and became a Bushy lap dog in 2004.

Still jonesing for a Obama/Edwards ticket.

We're an odd state politically. Republican governors (and Jesse) for most of my adult life plus one right wing senator and one left wing senator (and one reeaaally left - Wellstone) serving at the same time. It's like we need to balance everything out.

Yeah, that's a pretty big margin, considering the nation-wide outcome. Chimpy carried Ohio by only 2% in 2004. A 1.1% swing for Kerry, and Dubya's out of office.

No fudgin' way.

The most terrifying scene in electoral politics over the last 2 weeks has been MBA, former investment banker, and middlingly large family fortune scion Mittens Romney declaring how he 'Understands The Economy', a movie we've all seen before.  Florida Republicans also understood  as they swung to McCain specifically on the economy if the exit polls are to be believed.

He'll never win, anyway. Expect partisan hack extrordinaire Limbaugh to fall right in line with a McCain/Lieberman ticket, although it's possible that Hannity and Fox will sit this one out by handling Hillary with kid gloves and subjecting McCain to the sort of 'Non Coverage Coverage' usually reserved for Republican bathroom stall cruisers.

Hillary will have to go hard left and west for a Veep, mostly as a sop to an already deeply distrustful base. It looked like that's what Richardson and Kucinich were running for from the beginning anyway. Howard Dean could reappear, and probably will if it's Obama....

PS:

Never forget that for every Keith Ellison in Minnesota politics, there's also a Michelle Bachman

Disagree: I'm REALLY sure that in a McCain Presidency, I don't have 'Waterboard' as a widely understood verb and anybody that says 'You go to war with the Army you have not the Army you wish you had' 2 years AFTER going to war with said Army is FIRED.

I'm pretty sure with McCain I get realism and a fair fight as well. I don't think I get the same thing with Billary, and I KNOW I didn't get it with ideologically driven BushCo.
