Title: Best Opening Lyrics Ever?
Post by: Seamus on November 27, 2007, 09:17:02 PM
Any genre, Any era, Anybody, but it has to be the opening line or lines.

Mine would have to be.

Sitting on a park bench
Eyeing little girls with bad intent.

What's yours?

PS. List the band too!

One of my all time favorites:

She walked out of her house and looked around at all the gardens that looked back at her house like all the faces that quiz when you smile...

I surprised you didn't pick these lines:

Quote
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?

I exchanged my walk on part in the war, for a lead role in a cage.

I was working part time in a five-and-dime
My boss was Mr. McGee
He told me several times that he didn't like my kind
cause I was a bit 2 leisurely

Seems that I was busy doing something close 2 nothing
But different than the day before.....

[Edit:] Prince.  Raspberry Beret. Around the World in a Day.

Speaking of which...

This is one of my faves (and spacey's too):

The Cure - Just Like Heaven

"Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream", she said
"The one that makes me laugh", she said
Threw her arms around my neck
"Show me how you do it, and I promise you
I promise that I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you"

If there isn't light when no one sees
Then how can I know what you might believe
A story told that can't be real
Somehow must reflect the truth we feel, yeah

Fade away, fade away
Vanish into small
Fade away, fade away
Break the crystal ball

Ronnie James Dio

Well, it's not from a song but it should be:

Gerald began--but was interrupted by a piercing whistle which cost him ten percent of his hearing permanently, as it did everyone else in a ten-mile radius of the eruption, not that it mattered much because for them "permanently" meant the next ten minutes or so until buried by searing lava or suffocated by choking ash--to pee.

I backed my car into a cop car the other day
Well he just drove off sometimes life's ok
I ran my mouth off a bit too much oh what did I say
Well you just laughed it off it was all ok

Modest Mouse, "Float On"

I took a moment from my day
wrapped it up in things you say
mailed it off to your address
you'll get it pretty soon unless

the packaging begins to break
and all the points I tried to make
are tossed with thoughts into a bin
time leaks out my life leaks in

Phish, "Wading in the Velvet Sea"

The Squirming Coil of sunset
I keep within my reach
Tried yesterday to get away
and hitchhiked to the beach

I saw Satan on the beach
trying to catch a ray
He wasn't quite the speed of light
and the squirming coil
it got away....

Phish, "The Squirming Coil"

'Today you're gonna be sick, so sick,

You rest your forehead on the sink'

and pray oh christ, oh jesus christ,

my heads gonna split like an egg'

When I think back
On all the crap I learned in high school
It's a wonder
I can think at all

Where I almost made out with the homecoming queen
Who almost went on to be Miss Texas
But lost to a *trollop* with much bigger breastes

Another high school one.

High school seemed like such a blur
I didn't have much interest in sports or school elections
And in class I dreamed all day
About a rock 'n' roll weekend
And the girl in the front of the room
So close yet so far
Y'know she never seemed to notice
That this silly school-boy crush wasn't just pretend

Artist: Social Distortion
Song: Story Of My Life
