I was listening to the radio this morning and someone was trying to win tickets to a baseball game by saying they would propose to their girlfriend at the game if they won.  They didn't win because the (female) producer put the kibosh on any ideas of proposing at a sporting event.  I have to admit that it's a pretty strange place to propose and I've never known anyone that did something like that even though I hear about people doing that every so often.

But then I realized that I'm not one to talk, I proposed to my wife at one of the cheesiest places possible, at the top of the Space Needle in Seattle. ;D  And just to top off the occasion, after she said yes, and we came in from the observation deck, the song playing over the speakers was "If I could turn back time" by Cher.  [sm_shock]

So, for you married folks, where did you propose?

Went for a hike and I had the ring hidden in my backpack.  There's a spot overlooking the lake in the photo which is just perfect.  It's about 1000 feet above the lake and maybe 100 yards off the trail (cat track at the ski resort).  Ten feet from where we sat to drink wine and eat Cheetos (you'd have to know my wife) it drops off straight down to the edge of the lake.  Fabulous spot.

So I'm just about to pop the question and some dude pulls up on a bike.  My wife is the friendliest person ever and I had to listen to her chat away with him for 20 minutes or so.  I was near enough harfing with the nerves at this point.  He finally left and the rest is history.

1st Wife:  Vacaville, CA in the bathroom while looking at a positive EPT;  "Guess we should get married huh?"

2nd Wife:  I honestly don't remember. :-[

As you can tell, I am quite the romantic, and the ladies fawn over my charm and quick wit.

This is kinda corny, but, that's the way I am.
It was December 1980 and I  was the Child Welfare officer of my American Legion Post, and I was responsible for the Annual kid's Xmas party. We had gone out and bought presents for all the children and grandchildren of the members and we had a Santa Claus passing them out. After the last one was passed out, Santa announced that there was one more present left to go, and called my wife-to-be up to the stage. The present, of course, was the engagement ring. She, along with much of the membership was surprised. The most surprised was me when she said 'yes'.

We were taking a vacation in California. Flew to San Francisco and spent a few days there. Then we drove down the Pacific Coast to LA to visit one of her college friends.

On the way we spent a night in Big Sur. Popped the question that night.

Haven't popped the Q to anyone yet, but I'm thinkin sky writing baby!  At a sporting event no less.  I'm all class.

I bet Clive $5 you'd say on the way out of the free clinic.  >:(

I proposed at karate practice on the lawn at the University of Virginia.  The plan was to do some self-defenses with her, reverse a grab, throw her to the ground and maintain a wrist lock, then reach inside the gi and pull out the (custom) ring.  But I had a class and was late to practice, and there is no place to change clothes on the lawn.  So I just got down on one knee and asked her.

uh.....mmm.....never mind.

GI as in "gastrointestinal tract"? I know those karate uniforms have no pockets, but dayam! Couldn't you have held it in your mouth or something?

'gi' is uniform in Japanese - it consists of the 'uwagi' (jacket), '*feces*agi' (pants, or underwear), and tied with the 'obi' (belt).  All from memory so the spelling could be off.

I'd call myself a nerd if it wasn't for the fact that I could kick most of your asses  ;D

lol. It's a long story involving the Gallivan Center closing earlier than anticipated, a girlfriend who didn't want to wait until the next night to see Christmas lights, and sheer panic and terror over simply wanting to get the deed done. Well, okay, I guess it's not a long story, because that's it.

602 E Acres in Norman OK

The house my Dad purchased for me and eventually my brother to go to school in Norman.  I lived in an apartment upstairs and rented out the downstairs.  My wife and I met while attending OU and she eventually moved in with me.  750 square feet is a good preparation for marriage IMO.  So one day she came home from work and I surprised her with the place all romantic like flowers, candles and champaigne.  I also made this story book of pictures during our courtship and proposed. 

In fact it was 7/29/2004 so this is our 3 yr anniversary of getting engaged.

In my girlfriends living room.  Her father had a shotgun and evil intentions.  :fear: [sm_whip]

In the bedroom during a transient moment of copulatory bliss. 

She held me to my word.

On the north side of Lake Hefner Dam wall.

In the afternoon I went out and got some champagne and some glasses and stashed them over the side of the dam wall.

That evening we went to her fave restaurant and took the scenic way home.

I drove up on the dam where I stashed the goods earlier and stopped the car right beside it, or so I hoped.  We were in a convertible so we sat looking at stars and saying nonsensical romantic things.  After some canoodle type stuff we got out of the car and I reached over the wall (having spied the exact stash location) and pulled out the glasses and fizzy chit.  It was late November so it was fairly well chilled.

As she was reeling from the excitement of my discovery I asked her if she would wash my smalls from here on in, or similar.

I was scared that someone would have come along in the hours between placement and retrieval and drunk the gear or *feces* in the bag, or something.

No such luck....
