Title: Overrated
Post by: Uisce Beatha on August 07, 2007, 10:50:39 AM
Rather than threadjack, new thread.

Citizen Kane
It's a sled. No need to watch it again.
lol. 'bout time somebody said it. #1 movie of all time, my ass.

Regarding War and Peace.  To paraphrase spacey, "#1 book of all time, my ass."  I forced myself to read it cover to cover and it just didn't do a single thing for me.  Freakin' soap opera.

Give us your top overrated whatevers.

P.S. Bruce Springsteen is a given, no need to waste bandwidth on that one.   ;)

I'll expect strong disagreement on a couple of these:

Book: The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, everything by William Faulkner
Movie: Gone with the Wind, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Forrest Gump
Band: Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Queen, Guns N Roses
TV Show: Law and Order (any of them), Curb your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, [edit] Friends
Beer: Heineken (*fudge* that *feces*! Pabst Blue Ribbon!)

Jesper Parnevik - unless you're talking about his choice in nannies; in that capacity the dude is spot on.

Lindsey Lohan - as both an actress and a hottie worthy of any press.

Napoleon Dynamite - yeah, I got it; but that doesn't make it good.

Krispy Kreme - they're freaking doughnuts, get over it.

Starbucks - it's freaking coffee, get over it.

My drives - nuff said.

Roses - they never got me outta trouble, you?

I can agree with every item on this list. I haven't ever seen you drive, but every other item is spot on, so I'll assume you know what you're talking about.

Well, early on in my DS career I was known for being a BIG hitter.  I could hit a nice high draw, with a few beyond 300 a round.  One was measured via GPS to be 342 yards - my longest ever as far as I know (only in the desert, I'm tellin ya).  Given my size this was quite a feat, and hence the tales took shape.

Since then however, I no longer hit it very high, the draw has turned into a hook, and 280 is about my peak unless something really good happens.  I really miss the driver swing I used to have, I think I lost it in the bottom of a margarita glass.

Thomas Pynchon.

The guy writes 4 books, the last of which is more than vaguely pröñographic, and suddenly he was the greatest thing to come along since Faulkner. Then he doesn't write anything for 15 years, moves into a cabin somewhere in New England and refuses to have his picture taken. This makes him even MORE of a genius somehow.

Dave Matthews
I really DON'T get: Dorky looking 30 something white guy does some decent covers of Motown tunes and rips off every jam band working, and 10 million dorky looking 30 something white chicks swoon when he sings a B grade ballad.

NFL Football.
Everybody runs the same offense, a bunch of guys who couldn't carry The Mad Bombers jock strap get to pad their QB stats as a result, and nobody runs off tackle any more. Whatever. It's just 10 minutes of action packed into a 2.5 hour show featuring former ex jocks engaging in self congraulatory verbal circle jerks in the booth, with the occasional hottie thrown in on the sideline lest the whole thing become as homoerotic as the WWE or a Canadian FIGS outing.

Kurt Cobain

Ohh, look he writes whiney lyrics and sings them to old Clash riffs while wearing a moldy sweater and dying his hair. A certified genius. Good career move pal...

As a tire salesman, you should know that a synthetic chemical is ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENT from the chemical it represents when purified from a natural source.  It is the exact same entity.

I'm not a chemist, but I don't think these two things are the same:

C12H16N2O/ 4-Hydroxy-N,N-dimethyl-tryptamine

C20H25N3O/6aR,9R)-N,N-diethyl-7-methyl-4,6,6a,7,8,9-

hexahydroindolo-[4,3-fg]quinoline-9-carboxamide

LSD is a synthesized from a mold, psilocin occurs naturally in a variety of mushrooms.

The conversation was never about mescaline.

Mescaline can occurs organically in varieties of catus, and can also be made in a laboratory, although I'm not sure if it can be synthesized or is just purified.

Peyote cactii are pretty much inedible, so the buttons are generally 'Prepared' by boiling or grinding.

Psilocybin mushrooms can be eaten right out of the ground, although they taste like *feces*, which is what they tend to grow in.

People make tea with them, or put them in a warm spaghetti sauce (don't boil them, as this reduces the effect) for dinner after a hard day in a cow pasture in October or November when the temperature and humidity are JUST right in the PacNW.

At least, that's what somebody told me once, a long, long time ago.

Well the point is Aske.......I love nice clothes, I am a normal girl. ;D
I will not buy something just because it is a brand name & is twice the price, when I can buy something I like for half the price somewhere else! ;D
