Seamus has been reconnecting loose wires.

Seamus needed time away from the computer to work things out.

Seamus has been on a mission from God and Allah, the beneficent, the merciful. As-Salaam-Alaikum.

Seamus has been working out the little nuances in his belly button lint.

The owner of the company Seamus now works for (henceforth referred to as Napoleon for reasons known only to Seamus) told Seamus (in not so many words) that at the age of forty five Seamus does not know how to correctly use a vacuum cleaner, the little voice inside of Seamus’ head wanted to say to Napoleon, “I know how to use a *goshdarn* vacuum cleaner you smarmy little bastard” but…alas…he didn’t, but the revelation of his micromanagement ways were revealed to Seamus, respect was lost that day. Seamus was unhappy in work again, and decided to look again, and was lost again.

Seamus bought an electric guitar.

Seamus decided to try prayer again.

Seamus applied to be a correctional officer with the State of Washington, on a little Island named McNeil (some cat named Manson was a resident for a spell there). Seamus had two interviews on the island, he said to them “I know that there are a couple of nicks in my past, but that person doesn’t exist anymore, I’ve got another twenty year run in me, I won’t let you down”.

Seamus had to take a three hour, 900 question psychological test. Two weeks later he had to meet with a clinical psychologist and “talk” for one hour.

That same day Seamus’ oldest friend offered him a job, a friend who still drinks quite heavily, a friend who still partaketh of the herb quite regularly.

Suddenly Seamus was at the crossroads again, and it was midnight, and it was dark, the last time he was at the crossroads he was seventeen and he sold his soul for music.

Seamus prayed to the Father, to the Creator, to Allah, he chanted the Buddhist mantra (is anyone listening?), glanced in the Baghavad Gita, he asked for guidance, Seamus wanted to buy his soul back.


Today at 3:30 PM PDT Seamus received a phone call from the Sate of Washington; they offered him a job as a correctional officer, he begins training on August 13th. Seamus said goodbye to Napoleon and to the warehouse, it’s time to start a new chapter, a better chapter, time to get back into shape, both mentally and physically, time to get right, time to walk a different path. There is a power in this universe, and it does work mysteriously sometimes, but it is there, when you need it only you will know.

Seamus is…

Me too. I've had a smile on my face for two days, coupled with involuntary moments of weeping, rough year, great opportunity.

Dao? had to look that one up, either a single edged Chinese sword or a Data Access Object (DAO) which is an object that provides an abstract interface to some type of database or persistence mechanism, providing some specific operations without exposing details of the database.

When you boil a persons life and work experience down to two pieces of paper and an hour and a half talk, it would have been real easy (as several job interviewers with me have done) with my "infractions"  to just say naw, we'll take a pass. Something bigger may have been at work here and I'm really happy that the prison gave me this opportunity.
