Title: Its Comcastic! (NOT!)
Post by: hobbit on October 22, 2007, 12:56:29 PM
So, some folks may have read the news that Comcast is blocking file sharing applications like Bittorrent by faking RST packets and killing connections: http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2007/10/eff-tests-agree-ap-comcast-forging-packets-to-interfere

Well, its one thing to piss off some kids and such - but now Comcast may have really stepped in it... by doing the same thing to Lotus Notes traffic: http://kkanarski.blogspot.com/2007/09/comcast-filtering-lotus-notes-update.html

I don't use Notes anymore, but I'm sure as hell glad I'm not in Comcast territory.  To have a company I pay for Internet access to block portions of that access for no other reason than to promote a more expensive option (business class service) - I'm calling bull*feces* on that!  [sm_devil] :sad3:

LOL at the comments:

"...tunnel SSH over HTTP"

"...why in the world are you not using a VPN client to encrypt all your traffic in the first place?"

"...get frame-relay."

Well, that last one was me.   ;)

Still, to suggest that users should jump through hoops to use Notes over a paid connection is ridiculous.  If they want to transmit/receive in the clear that's their business.  Comcast apologists.   [sm_devil]

LOL - I didn't even look at the comments.  In any case, I do not think Notes traffic is 'in the clear' anyway.  There is a web interface, but like you said - why jump through hoops to use a connection you're paying for?

frame-relay - lol - ya chit disturber!  Its all MPLS these days - get out of the 90s!  :D

Not really - its just fit a few times recently  ;D

For instance, I just got us project approval for one of my projects recently and the project leader (I'm the technical guy) wanted me to send the approval committee a memo to update them.  A memo?, I asked.  That's so 80s.  :D

So what you're saying is that you're also critical of people and their choice of words? :nono:

A serious reply to post in jest is contradictory to this statement. :D
