Title: Mate, gimme a gin on the dog.
Post by: stroh on November 27, 2009, 02:02:16 PM
LMAO!  Jules, Deuce do you guys really talk this way?

I was looking something up and came across Aussie Rhyming Slang.  Hilarious.

For the 'Merkans:

Gin is shortened from Gin Sling which simply rhymes with ring.  Ring of course means to place a call.
Dog is shortned from Dog Bone which, you guessed it.  Brilliant!

They got tons of 'em.

LOL  Funny, one thing I never picked up.

I did get called on the "You Bet" while I was out there.  But again, never developed the full "Ya sure, you betcha."

I get busted on the vowels when I travel. They tend to sound long like Minnesoooooooota.

Born and raised here but I've been conscious of the "you bet" thing. Once in a while but not hardcore like some. "Ya sure, you betcha" is Hollywood's take. Don't run across too much of that.

Do y'all do some version of 'Y'uns' as well?  [sm_devil]

Lived in the south a LOONG time. Kept 'Y'all. We have no informal second person plural pronoun up here. Sometimes will go with : 'Dudes'.

Strewth, fair shake of the sauce bottle Jules!!

Who has time to speak like Olivia Newton, when you're working harder than a three legged dog digging a hole, so you can have some oxford scholars in your sky rocket, to buy some shark n' greasys and a brittany.
 ;)
