Title: Are you?
Post by: MFAWG on April 07, 2010, 04:56:29 PM
A clotheshorse?

There's nothing wrong with it, but I am decidedly not. This is mostly a function of where I play. Work pants are very permissible at the muni's I play,

When I say 'Work Pants' I mean oil stained Carhart's you were welding in 45 minutes ago, not the pants you were wearing behind your desk 2 years ago.

FWIW, I have seen dudes in scrub pants or tops. There's a hospital right by Jefferson Park.

That kicks ass!

I'm a complete golf clothes snob.   [sm_anon]  I will go out with the BIL for twilight rounds, beer and brandy and Coke in jeans and a t-shirt or sweatshirt on occasion. Otherwise I have to have the perfect matching ensemble.  Up to and including matching hat, belt and shoes.  I have 6 Titleist hats, all different colors for different shirt, shoes, etc.  When I play I look like a tour pro.  Not Ian Puolter, but not Boo Weekley either.  I currently have a couple of outfits ready to go, waiting on a new pair of all black shoes.

Oh, and don't get me started on shoes these days.  Hate!

Not sure if that's what you were asking, or if I'm a clothes Nazi for other people on the course.  I'm not.  I could give a *feces* what other people wear if they are comfortable.  This ain't BushWood.

It was. But I'll say you're not a snob, either.

If you can look good without:

A) Looking like your wife dressed you,

and/or

B) Looking ridiculous.

That's good.

Are you doing an Ian Poulter look or anything?

Got it.  And thank you.  No, I go out to play the game.  My game, and I'm a big believer in "Dance with who brung ya." in all aspects of life.  I used to go play with this guy I worked with for a quick 9 at the end of the day at the Columbia Heights Muni.  His Idea of golf (I *feces* you not) was cut off jeans and no shirt.  To feel the work day roll off his back, spend some time with friends and see the bottom of some beer cans.  Dude could also golf his ball.  Good as it gets.  I'd play with him any day, any course, naked if he wanted.  That's just "How he rolled.".

My biggest thing is to look good without looking:  Like you said above, but also fake, pretentious, over the top, etc.
For example:  I wouldn't go out in the Plus Fours.  I have too much respect for Payne Stewart's memory and more importantly don't have the game to pull it off.  You walk out on the first tee on a Saturday dressed like that you better card an even par round or better, OW you look like a *8==>* with ears.

Are you doing an Ian Poulter look or anything?

I love Poulter, but a little too much flair for me.  Again, I don't have the game to pull off that much look, let alone the hair.

I'm really just a good matching pants/shorts brown or black guy.  I like black and white, but I have to feel the right balance from hat to shirt to shoes.

Two words:  Bowling shoes.

I love bowling as much as golf but each sport has their place and their shoes.  This whole extra stripe thing down the middle of the toe  makes me crazy.
I get the whole "Sports Shoe" thing (read Tennis shoe golf shoes) .  They aren't bad, In fact I have played many times in tennis shoes to try to "swing within myself".

But man some of this *feces* you see on the shelves now days.  Good grief.  Give me a simple white Oxford.  Black Saddle, Brown Saddle, all black, all brown, maybe an alligator depending on the belt I'm wearing, a white with brown saddle with black accents I've seen is cool, a......

You get the idea.  Some of the *feces* looks like space shoes mixed with basketball.

Ah.  It just makes me *fudge*in' crazy.

My standard golf attire is a Polo shirt and cargo shorts. I also typically wear an Army surplus boonie hat.
