Title: sometimes bad things happen for the better... Post by: Aske on January 11, 2007, 07:32:42 PM So we got this bitchin vacuum last november (2005) (shark thunderbolt), it worked great. too great really. always had a full bin doing just one room. annoying as hell having to dump it, resume, and clean the filters sooo often. no big deal though, meant the carpets were clean.
the other drawback... the agitator was always full of sal's hair. it didnt get through to the canister at all. and it was a pain in the arse (6 screws, plus removing the drive belt) to remove. well, today, it had no suction at all. went to BBB to find out what their policy on the warranty was. cleaned everything, checked the belts, motor warm but not really stinky. who knows whats wrong with it. inquired if there was anything better in terms of cleaning the agitator brush. pointed out to the DC15. WOW. same level of cleaning power, and insanely easy to clean/maintain. taking the old busted one back tomorrow for a refund tomorrow. Title: Re: sometimes bad things happen for the better... So, believe the hype? [edit] I mean what Dyson says is legit? Title: Re: sometimes bad things happen for the better... Post by: Aske on January 11, 2007, 07:49:36 PM Very nice. We've talked about getting one. So, believe the hype? [edit] I mean what Dyson says is legit? so far. it doesn't really 'suck' more than the shark thunderbolt (beast!) but it sucks as much, about 1/2 the hair makes it into the canister, and overall, it's engineered* far better in terms of ease of cleaning/maintaining. add in the neat 'ball' and the 5 year warranty... wish i'd got it to begin with especially if you get one for 20%+ off retail. Title: Re: sometimes bad things happen for the better... Post by: spacey on January 11, 2007, 07:50:27 PM Laura really, really wants a Dyson. Apparently they even have a model designed specifically for pet owners. We have a Kirby right now and it is incredibly average. I'm really glad we didn't pay full price for it.

I'm really glad we didn't pay full price for it. from what i learned today, they come in ball/ no ball animal / plain the animal model has a separate 'motorized' brush for sofas and stuff to get pet hair specifically that the plain model doesnt. you can buy it aftermarket too (for $70) whereas the 'animal' model is only $50 more as a unit. if that brush does as good a job as the unit overall does... then i'd say its worth it. Post by: spacey on February 18, 2007, 12:00:16 PM We just went to Costco and bought the DC14 Full Kit model (no Ball). Laura just got done vacuuming the house and picked up a truly heroic amount of grime, dog hair, etc. It's only been 3 days or so since we vacuumed last, but you'd think the house hadn't been vacuumed in months. We're quite impressed.
(Apparently the difference between this and the "Animal" model is a low profile head attachment to get underneath furniture, available for $50 aftermarket, and a carpet cleaning kit which we don't need because we've already got a steam cleaner.) they mail out 20% off coupons all the time they also have that costco'esque attitude on 'dont like it, bring it back for a refund - no questions asked (as long as it wasnt dropped off a building)' thing being they are a home appliance/ furnishing store they offer more stock than costco. with the coupons they match costco prices usually Title: Re: sometimes bad things happen for the better... Post by: spacey on February 18, 2007, 07:26:23 PM Oooh, yeah we have Bed Bath and Beyond here. We went to Costco because we knew they stock it, it was sort of an impulse buy, and the closest BBB (that I'm aware of) is ~20 miles away while Costco is maybe 5 miles.
Title: Re: sometimes bad things happen for the better... Post by: CharmZer on August 05, 2009, 01:34:00 AM Apparently they even accept a archetypal advised accurately for pet owners. We accept a Kirby appropriate now and it is abundantly average.
