Title: rant
Post by: Darla on July 03, 2008, 08:34:29 AM
so how can a couple that has 2 kids not like people they invite over to bring their kids. Sorry just a sore subject with me, if you don't have any children I understand, but if you HAVE kids whats the difference, the other peoples kids will play with your kids. At least that is what happens when people come over here.........

Maybe they only like their kids?

Maybe they don't like your kids?

Maybe they don't like the [their kids]+[your kids] dynamic?

Maybe they really never wanted kids in the first place?

What time of day are we talking about for a visit?

Any orgy potential?

(sans any kids, of course.)

Maybe they don't like your kids? not just my kids, everyone elses too

Maybe they don't like the [their kids]+[your kids] dynamic? how would they know?   secondly, my kids, their kids and other kids have played at another couples house no problem

Maybe they really never wanted kids in the first place?  [sm_devil]

Is there a difference in the bedtimes of their kids v. your kids?  Even if not, are their kids sequestered in their rooms at some point toward evening's end?  'Cause your kids don't have bedrooms there, I suppose.

I have a kid.  If I'm having company over in the evening, I don't want their kids coming over with them.  My kid is bathing by 1930 and lights out by 2030.  After that, my kid is  [sm_sleepy1].  And what would yours be doing?

("You" and "your" used for illustration only -- nothing personal against you, Spanky, or your little satanic spawn.)

Actually mine are usually in bed by 2000 during the week. On the weekends we let them stay up later. Same with them!

But I meant your kids at the other couple's house.  You're relying on them keeping their kids up to entertain/run interference with yours.

What'd be the arrival time for such a visit?

Much like Stroh, I'm probably over-thinking it.  But you can appreciate that unless you're arriving fairly early in the evening and not departing too late (relative to kids' bedtimes), there's strong potential for parents to not get much "adult time" out of the visit.  Maybe they have a tough time getting their kids to bed after the double-whammy of staying up late AND having your kids over to their house?  Mine is definitely like that.

My gut instinct, in this situation, is that the mother has some sort of subclinical obsessive-compulsive syndrome, paralyzed by the thought of fingerprints left all over her house by YOUR progeny.

I will say this, time of day makes no difference. Could be middle of the day or wee hours of the morning. No kids to come over. That's fine, they can have that rule, I won't go. Under normal circumstances that wouldn't be a big deal as Darla could go and I would just stay home but Darla can't (and probably shouldn't) drive just yet so it ruined her plans for tomorrow. (that and I have to work tomorrow doesn't help)

well it probably more the fingerpints all over the place than anything else. It is just frustrating, that and I am stuck here in this house. what can I say.

I didn't go to the company Christmas party this year 'cuz no children were allowed.  The holidays are for families.  They don't want my kids there, I'm not going.

Or it was 'cuz they didn't spring for an open bar.  I don't really remember.

Anyway, if friends with kids invited us over but told us to leave our kids behind they wouldn't be my friends for much longer.  If it was an adults-only gathering (i.e. they sent their kids to grandma's) then no problem at all.

I say boycott the haters.

I've had friends bring their kids over. One of them is no longer welcome as their child is an absolute *feces*. I have no problem with that.  Teach your kids some respect!!

On the other hand if you're a parent with ugly children you all need to stay inside at home and get as much beauty sleep as possible, nobody needs to see that *feces*!!
