Title: So this is what it means to be "on call"...(prolly nsfeagle or the smite fairy)
Post by: Seamus on November 17, 2007, 01:13:16 AM
What with my new hours (12 a days x 5) and now a 24 hour on call..I haven't seen much of the missus lately, so tonight, we finally get our chance. No calls for 4 hours on the Bruce Wayne hot line so we decide we have a window of opportunity.

[sm_hump]

I *feces* you not two minutes into "it" the on call phone rings, conversation goes like this.

Dude- "Uh Gregg...can you go change a flat 5 miles from your house"

Gregg- "Yeah sure no problem, hey I'm just getting out of the tub can I call you back in two minutes and get the details"

I ain't kidding you, I actually said I'm just getting out of the tub.

So...finish...call back...blah blah blah, bah duh boom bah duh bing, slide down the bat pole and I'm out the door

Change the tire 30 minutes (I'm hating Mercedes already) get my first 10 dollar tip and head home.

Bat phone rings again.

Dude- "Uh flat tire, she's on I-5 in the left lane, you gotta tow her to where it's safe and change it".

I tell you what, I worked on the flight deck of an operational aircraft carrier doing night maneuvers near Beirut Lebanon where we launched several sorties a night. I have never been so scared as I was tonight working on I-5, and I had a state trooper behind the car being towed.

The good news though, I think I made more in this two hours than I made in the last 3 days.

If anyone needs me I'll be in the tub.

NO kidding. I'm sure we have all had to pull off the side of the highway and feel the exhilarating rush of a 20 ton semi screaming past us at 190 mph.......

Is "in the tub" a euphemism? [sm_dontknow]

This part is funnier if you're a tire guy, tow truck guy or have ever changed the tire on an MB, BMW, Volvo, or  VW on I5 in the dark when it's raining out.

The only thing that would have made it better is if she was rollin' dub-dub's installed by her dope fiend neighbor for the price of a 12 pack...

Oh, yeah. They're a PIA in shop conditions, and the aggravation factor is exponential the darker, colder and wetter it gets.

The really fun ones are the Volvo's that have a little pin in the hub to 'Help' locate the wheel. Yeah, THAT works...
