'POWERPLAY' - THE FUTURE OF GOLF

Former British amateur champion and Walker Cup captain Peter McEvoy is one of the people behind the idea, which is a bid to create golf's answer to Twenty20 cricket and rugby sevens.

"It offers a shorter, exciting version of golf - where elements of risk and reward are enhanced," said McEvoy at the Northwick Park golf centre near Harrow.
....
The most radical part of PowerPlay golf is that each green has two holes rather than one, with a black flag denoting the more difficult pin placing and a white flag the easier one.

Over nine holes players have to make three powerplays where they go for the tougher option and can double their points if they achieve a gross or net birdie or better.

Other intricacies are being considered, including a 30-foot diameter circle around the final black flag hole where bonus points are awarded if a player hits his shot within the circle, but where minus points kick in for misses.

This will be easy for me.

On my approach shots I'll just go for the white flag. If my form holds true from last season I'll have quite a few tap-in's on the black flag holes.   8)
