Title: Seamus McDuff employed once again.
Post by: Seamus on April 29, 2008, 04:10:30 PM
It's kinda different. And it still has me thrown for a little loop.

A little recap since I haven't emailed posted inane rambling thoughts some of you since the great supposed GPS install job of '08, (that's pronounced aught eight)

I interviewed for the warehouse manager's position at Sea-Tac Lighting, I have been on three separate interviews including today. When I got back home from Ma and Pa's house their was a message to call one of the owners back.

So he says.

"we want to hire you, but it's not exactly for the warehouse managers position."

I says "Ooookkkk"

"Here's what we want to do, we want you to cross train in the warehouse for now (about a month), we're going to hire another guy to actually run the warehouse (but you'll both know the job, so vacations and sick leave won't be a problem), we think you might be better suited to learn how to do quotes and bids and learn project management, along with customer service and supporting inside sales"

I says "Ooookkkk."

He asked me how I felt about it, and I said I was nervous, it's out of my comfort level, it's not something I've really ever done.

And then I said something stupid like I don't even have the proper clothes to be an inside type person.

Business casual, I ain't got it. But I said...I'll get it.

But he reaffirmed his confidence in me, and maybe he/they see something I'm just not capable of seeing (probably due to a lack of confidence in this area).

Pay...not so great to start, but it's better pay than the City of Federal Way pay I interviewed for yesterday, and they clean up waste, all sorts of waste if you can imagine (human and animal for those of you that can't imagine).

Sometimes it's really a good thing to leave your comfort level, and speaking of comfort level it sure will be nice to haul my ass out of the lazy boy and get back to work. Daytime TV sux.

The Lord works in mysterious ways.

I start May 1st. :-)

congrats.

my dad did contracts/bids    it can be stressful but if you get it, then you get it, no doubt...  anyways.... for about 20 years before....getting canned as his health went downhill (even though he went in sat and sund to makeup missed time) and was nearing his retirement benefits

That's freakin' awesome!

I wouldn't sweat going outside of your confidence level.  I bet after a few months of working there, you'll look back and laugh about your nervousness going in.

Awesome!   [sm_thumbsup2]

You'll do great. If you never take some steps outside of your comfort area you'll never grow. I guarantee you will benefit from this experience.

I'm in a similar position today. The job I started on Monday is outside of where I've been and what my experience is in. But they see something in me and it's a step I've wanted to take. Combine those two and I'm sure it will be a positive experience.

This is supposed to be a happy occasion.  Lets not bicker and argue about who canned who.

Thanks everyone.

It's been a long strange trip.

Truckin - like the doodah man, once told me you got to play your hand
sometime - the cards ain't worth a dime, if you don't lay em down

I don't know what more to say, you guys are awesome...

You and you and you, and you over there, and oh yeah I see you, you're awesome too. It's a wicked cool community we've got here.

I remember tellin' brother Stroh awhile back, "knowin' what I know now I'd leap from my comfort level and not look back", or something to that effect, I guess it's time to put my money where my mouth is.

Thanks again, means a lot to me.
